dead Jeep Cherokee
I have a dead 99 jeep sitting in the yard, just in time for the holidays... It is not my car, but If it can be driven out of here, the holiday will be a happier time...
can any one give me some suggestions on how to find the fuel pump relay on this thing? I know they exist, but have never needed to find one before, and I hope it would be a simple fix such as this.. as the car turns over, but never fires.. with no smell of gas at the tail pipe.. or any other general suggestions on where to look? thanks, jason

Go down to harbour freight and buy a set of injector test lights for about $6. If the light does not flash when cranking you probably have a bad crank sensor in the distributor or on the flywheel. If the computer does not see that the engine is turning it wont turn on the fuel pump or fire the injectors.

uh oh
If it is like the wife's POS 2000 Grand Cherokee you will need to drop the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump. Try to get as much gasoline out of the tank as possible. Using a lift and a transmission jack makes the job a little easier.

first check to see if you have fuel at the rail.. depress the shroeder valve but be careful as it will squirt majorly if there is fuel there.
you may also want to go to pirate4x4 as that place is loaded with heepheads who know everything about these vehicles. good luck. |
