Yari o tsukao means to use a spear, fwiw.
Well, as I recall it was "to wield a spear in a *****house" or something to that effect, the guy was nearly 80 and this was 1982,perhaps I mispronounced it.

He generally applied it to any futile endeavor, particularly arguments with his wife.

ahhh yes, monticello. a very nice home. it is interesting how small it is by today's standards for a home that was massive in its time.

good luck in your marriage.

marriage is heaven if you have the right gal.....hell if not.

i should know... i have had one of each!

the second one is the good one. 30 yrs so far.

Thanks, Bill, and happy birthday!

I turned 41 on the only day that could be my birthday: April Fool's Day. (Hey, at least I have an excuse!)

As for honeymoon plans, we haven't even begun to think of a destination. I'd love to go to Italy. We've both been to Venice, but Rome would also be a good destination. It's a custom that in your first year of marriage you can be personally blessed by the Pope. Can't beat that!

Another place to go would be the beautiful island of Capri. I visited Capri a few years ago and will never forget it.

Great news for you Stefano!

You will be hosting a GTG in the Spring, right? You get permission, and we will all show up at Monticello.

I assume y=the reason for posting about your proposal is that you require "our" permission. You must introduce her to all your strange Mercedes friends.

As for the question of marriage longevity--My wife and I were married on May 22, 1971, so that makes it 35 years if I did the math right.

Actually, I did mention it. She seemed a bit puzzled at it, but then I showed her the site and she knew what I was getting at. She's from Peru and has only been in the US for two years. I guess it's that they don't have a Mercedes forum for nerds like us in her country!

Congrats on the longevity of your marriage!

I forgot to mention that I dated a foreign exchange student from Peru what I was in college.

She was a hottie, but came from a very strict Catholic family, which in the end became the reason for our undoing.

My family had some close friends when we lived in VA that had been forced out of Peru by the 'Black Hand' group. The old man worked until he died in DC I guess through State or CIA giving info about the organization. Many years later when I actually learned about that group and what they were capable of, I am amazed upon reflection that no one in the family ever dissapeared, ect....They did however all change their names when they moved here to the equivalent of John Doe, Jane Doe.....

All the same for me too, but partially because she's from a very strict Catholic family (and is also herself)!

That's really great.

The problem with us specifically is that after dating for almost two years, she was talking about getting married, and it was just too soon for me.

Her parents were vehemently against not only the marriage idea, but also the simple fact that she was dating a Protestant.

In short, I bailed.

She sure was a nice girl, though. Very petite, very light complected with green eyes and very light brown hair. She had a very sweet disposition, and apart from the religion problem, we got along splendidly.

There you go. Episcopal ceremony is the next best thing.
