BUSTED!

As I sit here sipping my Scotch with a wife & 3 daughters confirmed members. Apparently a lapsed member counts, too.

Found Capri a bit disappointing, actually (and it's a full day drive from Venice, btw). Rome's better for them I think: Saint Peter/the Vatican, +Bocca della Verita is simply a must for Honeymooners. Stop over in Siena on the way, of course.

Amore.

She's from Peru!!

Congrats! and all the best, Stefano.

I was married to a Peruana, she was from Arequipa, but had relatives in Lima,
so I have been fortunate to visit many parts of Peru...

The family is SO important, there, if she has some there, I hope you will visit from time to time. You'll love it, and there is so much to see, wherever you go, Huaraz is "little Switerland", don't miss Caraz and around, the Gold Museum in Monterrico, Lima, see the Pres. Palace, stay inMirafloresneighborhood (Their Beverly Hills, the Mercedes dlr is there, it's near the Panamerica Hwy), the Jockey Club Shopping Center in Lima is a must see, Arequipa is a treasure, see a bullfight if you can, (hey are unique in AQP)theSta. Catalina monastery is like 1 block from the city square yet like going back to 14th cent. Spain) take a trip to Cusco, see the old city and a day trip to Macchu Picchu, and perhaps the churches of Ayacucho, or a helicopter ride over the Nazca lines (near the coast).

You'll love the Peruvian food, from papa a la Hauancaya to anticuchos, their food is like no others, and yoou can get loaded on Pisco Sours when you're out.

I did visit the Mercedes dealer in Peru, there's only one, it was called Automotriz de Peru SA (now called Divemotor SA) and got the coolest dealer sticker for the car (which it still has) the funny thing was I got the sticker *before* I bought the car!! Not very many Mercedes in Peru, but there are some around if you look, from beat up fintails to newish C43. Even a few S class, and I saw a nice 250C coupe in Arequipa once. The everyday cars are mostly Korean and japanese. I took a coastal ride to see the nazca lines in a '66 Cutlass with a nissan diesel engine.

When you shop, get a nice alpaca blanket shawl or blanket. If you went to the markets, you'd have to decide whether it was alpaca or baby alpaca, handmade or machine woven. Your wife probably help, and the # 1 store for the best Alpaca goods is called "Alpaca 111", they are in Lima & Arequipa.
You can commission jewelry made in the better areas, and it's cheap for real gold! Idea for Lima and Arequipa shopping, order it and pick up in a few days. Finest upscale jewelry in Lima is at H. Stern, they are an Intl. outfit.

It's a lovely place, there are some beautiful pictures posted in the Peruvian section of www.skyscrapercity.com

Congrats. again, and take care....
Best wishes

Jim, I half-way envy you. I did my graduate field research in the rainforest surrounding Iquitos. I lived in and around Iquitos for over a month and really, really enjoyed the people and culture. I could live in that area if I had an income.

Some of my colleagues took time to visit western Peru, but I did not. My loss as I will probably never get to Macchu Picchu, at least in this lifetime. I stayed focused on what I thought was important.

Later, I came back with an oil company and worked in Andean Argentina. Nice, but I'm a wetland guy and rainforests are the ultimate wetland.

well, ok.. venice or rome both have at least a week's worth of intense exploration.. a side trip trip to verona and bocca would be a great touch.

I visited the grotto a few years ago. We were lucky, because the grotto is only accesible one out of three days due to the height of the waves leading into it. Really incredible inside!!

My only regret is that I didn't know about another opening just below the one the boats go through. Had I known about that opening, I would have jumped in and swam into the grotto. Next time.......

"arriba Peru"

Thanks, Jim.

Yes, I'm learing all about the country and its culture through my fiance. I love the food and have seen a few videos about the country. What a beautiful place!!!! We do plan to visit once we get married because the only people coming up for the wedding will be her parents.

Yes, while Capri is beautiful, I imagine there's not much more to see that you couldn't see in just a few days. We're still bouncing ideas off each other for a honeymoon location. I may begin a new thread about that!:D
