I popped the question last night.....

And she said YES!

Wedding will be in June '07.

I'll post a pic of the happy couple soon.:) :)

Botnst 11-25-2006 11:05 AM

Congratulations, Stefano. I have no doubt you'll make a fine husband and perhaps father.

Is your fiancee in the same business as you?

John Doe 11-25-2006 11:20 AM

Awesome! Hearty congrats!

LaughingGravy 11-25-2006 11:42 AM

That's great news! It's also nice to see there's actually a month picked out in the near future. It says that you're serious.
Congratulations!

Congrats, dude!

Geeesh, where have I been? I didn't even know you were in a serious relationship.

It seems like just recently you were talking about the dating scene.

Well that is one way to look at it, but (although this wouldn't be the case in my good friend Sflori's case), it could also mean there was a shotgun involved:D

Congrats, may you both enjoy being healthy, wealthy, and wise. :)

iwrock 11-25-2006 06:08 PM

AWESOME!!! Congrats!

Now a question....

Are you going to have a 600 Pullman as a part of the wedding????

kerry 11-25-2006 08:19 PM

Congratulations. I assume it will be a church wedding. Went to my nephew's
wedding in Charleston's art museum a couple of weeks ago. Nicest part was that from beginning to end, it couldn't have lasted more than 4 minutes. In fact they began early so were done before the scheduled start time.

How many lifers to we have here? 30yrs for us.

mzsmbs 11-26-2006 12:07 AM

stefano :beerchug: best of luck.

Thanks for the sentiments, guys.

Yes, we're very happy. She's from Peru and has been here in the States for two years. We met at church group I preside over. No, Ted, she isn't the same gal you met a couple years ago. We've been dating a bit under five months, but at our age (41 for me/ 39 for her), you know if they're the one pretty quickly.

Here's a pic. :) Sorry for the resolution, but it's the only way I could get it to post.

sixto 11-26-2006 02:00 AM

I'd recommend a background check on her. Poor resolution or not, she does not look 39. You on the other hand... :D

Congratulations!

Yeah, she is definitely the better looking one :D:D
I'll help with the background check by investigating any sisters;)

Speaking of background, nice little fixer-upper you got there.

You're absolutely right! There sure is enough room to have all of us there for the reception!

That's Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia.

16 years for us,both still extant more or less...now what's that delightfully true Japanese proverb, hope the phonetic rendering is correct......"setsuin de yari wo tsukao yo"old engraver fellow I worked with used it as a stock cliche' for married life in general.

I thought it looked familiar. The first couple of years are the best and worst of married life, and for exactly the same reason--getting to know one's mate.

Kerry asked a question previously, directed at the rest of us. I've been married to the same woman for 31 years. We had some bad years, mostly due to stress of a new baby while I was in grad school. I contributed practically nothing useful to our family for nearly a year while doing research. I wish I could have that year back, but on the other hand, that was the most intellectually stimulating year of my life. It nearly caused us to break-up. Stubbornness pulled us through. Both of us can be difficult to move when we are convinced of something. We were both convinced that we could make it, even if I was self-absorbed (her words) and she was too demanding (my words).

On the good side is we have three normal kids that are kind and generous and hard-working. They set high standards for themselves and expect others to do the same. I am learning to enjoy their lives as an observer rather than player. It's a difficult transition. Oh yeah, despite my obvious agnosticism (or maybe because of...) all three followed their Mother's religious persuasion as Episcopalians.

Neither my wife or I recognize that proverb.

Something is wrong with the first word, "setsuin". It's not a word, and neither of us know what it could be.

It could be a proverb that has fallen out of use.

Yari o tsukao means to use a spear, fwiw.

Well, as I recall it was "to wield a spear in a *****house" or something to that effect, the guy was nearly 80 and this was 1982,perhaps I mispronounced it.

He generally applied it to any futile endeavor, particularly arguments with his wife.

t walgamuth 11-26-2006 11:00 PM

ahhh yes, monticello. a very nice home. it is interesting how small it is by today's standards for a home that was massive in its time.

good luck in your marriage.

marriage is heaven if you have the right gal.....hell if not.

i should know... i have had one of each!

the second one is the good one. 30 yrs so far.

..there's really only one destination for a honeymoon:
Venice, Italia.

Congrats Stefano! When did you turn 41? I know it was very recent because i turn 41 tomorrow. I wish you and your fiance the best!:)

Thanks, Bill, and happy birthday!

I turned 41 on the only day that could be my birthday: April Fool's Day. (Hey, at least I have an excuse!)

As for honeymoon plans, we haven't even begun to think of a destination. I'd love to go to Italy. We've both been to Venice, but Rome would also be a good destination. It's a custom that in your first year of marriage you can be personally blessed by the Pope. Can't beat that!

Another place to go would be the beautiful island of Capri. I visited Capri a few years ago and will never forget it.

MS Fowler 11-27-2006 12:18 PM

Great news for you Stefano!

You will be hosting a GTG in the Spring, right? You get permission, and we will all show up at Monticello.

I assume y=the reason for posting about your proposal is that you require "our" permission. You must introduce her to all your strange Mercedes friends.

As for the question of marriage longevity--My wife and I were married on May 22, 1971, so that makes it 35 years if I did the math right.

Actually, I did mention it. She seemed a bit puzzled at it, but then I showed her the site and she knew what I was getting at. She's from Peru and has only been in the US for two years. I guess it's that they don't have a Mercedes forum for nerds like us in her country!:P

Congrats on the longevity of your marriage!

suginami 11-27-2006 12:44 PM

I forgot to mention that I dated a foreign exchange student from Peru what I was in college.

She was a hottie, but came from a very strict Catholic family, which in the end became the reason for our undoing.

Congrats on the longevity of your marriage!

My family had some close friends when we lived in VA that had been forced out of Peru by the 'Black Hand' group. The old man worked until he died in DC I guess through State or CIA giving info about the organization. Many years later when I actually learned about that group and what they were capable of, I am amazed upon reflection that no one in the family ever dissapeared, ect....They did however all change their names when they moved here to the equivalent of John Doe, Jane Doe.....

All the same for me too, but partially because she's from a very strict Catholic family (and is also herself)!

That's really great.

The problem with us specifically is that after dating for almost two years, she was talking about getting married, and it was just too soon for me.

Her parents were vehemently against not only the marriage idea, but also the simple fact that she was dating a Protestant.

In short, I bailed.

She sure was a nice girl, though. Very petite, very light complected with green eyes and very light brown hair. She had a very sweet disposition, and apart from the religion problem, we got along splendidly.

John Doe 11-27-2006 03:33 PM

I dated a cradle Catholic and she left the Church when we got engaged and we got married in an Episcopal Cathedral;)

BUSTED!

As I sit here sipping my Scotch with a wife & 3 daughters confirmed members. Apparently a lapsed member counts, too.
