The system that is hammering the plains started here in the Pacific Northwest. It really got us good. All that cold and snow was on the heels of a solid month of impressive rain. The record fell for the wettest month ever. We had almost 16 inches of rain this November.

T'was 80something here today, partly cloudy and more humid than I would've liked. Supposed to be the same tomorrow.

high wind here today. On the way to work, I looked in my rear-view to see a tree barreling down the highway about 1000 ft. behind me.

It was a interesting day, as it has been across the country with the passage of this front. Last night- around 11pm, it was 57°, - by 12am, it had dropped to 55°, then at 1am, the winds suddenly increased out of the south and the temperatures quickly warmed. By 1:45am, when I retired, the temperature had soared to 69°! When I left for work at 8:30am this morning, it was a "balmy" 72°, (which was our high) and was partly sunny, very breezy, but the west sky was very dark..... When I arrived at work, it was POURING down rain- I was drenched- it was also very windy - at the airport- winds had gusted to nearly 45 mph. In Knoxville- they gusted to nearly 60 mph, and had widespread power outages. Temperatures went downhill not to long after that I was told and it was really getting chilly when I went to lunch at 2:30- it was about 55°. Looks like the winds finally picked up at the airport overnight last night and the temperature went up there as well. Looks like we can tell the warm 70s good-bye for a while. lol. Perhaps now people will be in the Christmas spirit. Everyone has been telling me with these mild temperatures that it has been hard for them to do so.

Knoxville hit a record high of 73° at 3am - after being 57° at 12am.

Interesting. I knew that the Arizona deserts could get really cold at night- especially in northern Arizona, but really never though much about it getting all that cold in Phoenix. Yuma is what really had me surprised- with the freeze warnings all the way into the typically warmest areas of AZ. I guess the dry air can get much colder, quicker. I guess it really should not be that much of a surprise though, because even LA has had freeze warnings - and even south Florida has had freeze warnings before- but not really below Miami. I think their all-time record low is something like 32-33°? I think Key Wests all time record is 42°.

I remember a week of 32F in January six years ago with snow on all the mountains visible just a few miles north of Phoenix. Ok so that's two months away but its still winter and it was a hell of a shock to this recently arrived immigrant from South Africa who was thinking Cactus and desert heat.
Gotta say too that the Weather Channel is one of my favourite channels to check out from time to time. Especially this time of year. Mostly to reinforce my opinion that I'm very glad to be in Phoenix
