Letters from Iwo Jima

Anticipated seeing this film for months after seeing "Flags of our Fathers". What a beautiful film, together with "Flag of our fathers" one, if not the best film I saw this year. Clint Eastwood must be one of America's best directors, a true story teller.

Eastwood is always been among the top players on my chart, even as a Space Cowboy ... he's done very well.

i hope clint's iwo movie is less dark than "mystic river" and "million dollar baby".

i don't need to watch things with unnecessarily depressing endings.

Yeah, the 'million dollar baby' was a little depressing. Reminds me of another he made....(thinking).

Yeah! Got it! 'Bronco Billy' and/or 'Honky Tonk Man'

Jorn,

Just curous. Did you think Letters from Iwo is substantially differrent from Flags? Or is it Flags through a mirror?
Also, is it in subtitles or voice over? I assume it's not in english.

It's in Japanese, yes it's a substantially different film, I thought it was even stronger. If you saw "Flags of Our Fathers" you should see this film.

With both films the audience didn't leave 'till the end titles were done, you don't see that often happen anymore.

The audience reaction was the same when I saw Flags. I read the book and thought Eastwood was pretty true to the story as written.

The view of the other side of the battle will be interesting I'm sure. Those soldiers knew they weren't leaving the island.
