I got a MySpace account to access the Rate My Professor feature. Unfortunately, I've forgotten my password and our e-mail at school blocks myspace e-mails so I have no way to access it anymore.

I had one. It's still there somewhere. I never liked it, YouTube is better.

You can read the first few ratings without having an account. To read all the ratings you will need to sign up (on the plus side its free).

Personally, I find Myspace to be a cheezy over-hyped piece of trash.. espically from an IT standpoint. Nine out of ten sites that I see look like they were written and maintained by a 15 year old (probably because a good deal of them are.. heh), and honestly I don't think that it innovates, really.

Livejournal and Myspace aren't really anything 'new', per-say. Blogging has been around since forever, this just makes it a little easier. But, maybe I'm just jaded. After all, my sister had to file police reports due to a stalking incident on Myspace, which still continues to this day. This is probably why most people have their things set to private, I'm guessing. In the information age, it's all too easy to point, click, and find out everything about someone.

I have heard a some horror stories about Myspace but personally I like it.
I met my current girlfriend there and honestly I think she may be the one for me.
I have also met a lot of good people who I'm friends with. I have nothing bad to say about it.

I think myspace is for you young fellers. My son has a page there to promote his band. I'm too old for that stuff. I do most of my time-wasting right here.

First time I ever went on it was five minutes ago. I figure since it is showing up pretty much all over the place I'd better be familiar with it before my kids get in trouble on it.

Yes, the press that Myspace gets seems to be largely negative and sensational. My older daughter has/had a page on Myspace, but has since moved on to something else. I forget the name of the new site, but it does have some type of verification to weed out pedophiles. I think you have to be a real student in a school that can somehow be verified.

It all gives me a headache to think about. I can barely run my own life successfully, much less keep up with these technologies that have a half-life of about 3 weeks!

Employers looking at it also

I've read several accounts of employers researching myspace for applicants. Those bar photos aren't the best employment recommendations.... 8( Companies that do background checks also look there.

Also I heard it is difficult or impossible to have an acccount deleted. It might be worth checking on what you post and how long it will be around. My underage ( under 14) daughter started a page and we did get them to delete it after some pressure.

Just be careful out there.

Chuck
