Never,in my 44 observant years have I seen so much waste of resources in accumulating worthless material goods, building pasteboard an plastic-covered kennels with such useless space as costs a King's ransom to heat,no wonder few people have any savings.

Is some sort of religion or spirituality the answer?well,as aught I can see whatever it be that makes one concentrate on the essentials of honesty, economy and the satisfaction of simply BEING is jake with me.

Organised religion,as we are aware, has served as the chief political stabilising and propaganda force in many nations, and as a corollary,to perhaps remind man of his true nature, which generally goes unheeded

The problem is one cannot legislate greed, lust, envy and the possibility of opportunistic theft, human nature being what it is,simply turn on the idiot box and view some advertisements that appeal to our baser {and most dominant}insticts.

My Gramps once said these things go thru cycles,he lived thru it all,the prosperity of the '20's and the comeuppance of the depression.

Each generation seems doomed{uh,predestined?}to repeat the same mistakes as previous ones.
Hmmmm? So the excesses of the Roman Empire lead to the development of the Christian idea of sin and we are about to see the same thing happen with the American Empire?

Don't forget the Chaldeans and the Sassanians! And no,my context was,as is frequently due to my lack of enregistrate skills, somewhat misinterpreted.

The Romans had a very similar way of evaluating ethos as the Christians did.

Christianity is,in fact a great assimilator,It adopted Roman pantheistic ideas, those of the Scythians, germanic tribes and Celts.
Truly a "welcome all" faith in it's infancy before the Papacy established itself as the end-all of the global Christian See in the 8th century.

That's a new one on me. My goodness, the bible (OT in particular) is all about ego and self. Other than that, I'll concede your point, if one can consider god a greater good, rather than a greater individual (which again, denotes ego and self).

My Christian training informs me that sin is anything that separates me from God.

Can sin be generalized such that atheists can sin or is sin only for believers?

You'd have to ask Bill. He's the only one likely to have eaten the original.

If a clone is indistinguishable from the original, does that mean Bill would have two wives named Hillary?

"Harcourt!"

The ultimate sin would be denying God when you know god to exist. According to Jesus, that is the one unforgivable sin, IIRC.

Put another way, if you had a burning bush moment, would you return from the mountain and deny you had that moment?

It would depend on the consequences of the admission...

Depends on your perspective.

Atheists' beliefs are only governed by themselves: They set their own standards, and do not follow anybody else's path previously laid before them. Thus, it makes them extremely difficult to approach on the subject of religion since their beliefs are somewhat custom fit.

Although I judge and react to people sometimes by their actions and how they conform to my beliefs, I shouldn't. That in itself is a UNIVERSAL sin.

will strive through the Holy Spirit ....but thanks to GOD..."Salvation" is NOT BASED on our Walk/Works =...(filthy rags)!!

Remember..King David (adultery + murder)..."A Man after Gods own heart!"

The true Gospel is GOOD NEWS... : Strive for Godly works...John 6: 28-29

John 6:28-29 ... Then they said to him (his disciples),"What shall we do, that we may work the works of God"... verse 29... Jesus answered and said to them.."This is the work of God ,that you believe in Him whom He sent" (Jesus's words in red) ... A True Gift!!

Jesus's words according to the author of that Gospel. Big difference.

Jesus was perfectly clear on that issue. It is better to die for truth than to live a lie. Knowing God and denying him due to consequences or circumstances is living a lie for one's own convenience -- putting self before God.
