If it's sincere, then I suppose that would be appropriate, but I don't see any scenario where that would be sincere.

In other words, it ain't who you swear to, it's what you do.

Would that be The Green Lantern or would it be Spiderman, Bot? I think we'd have to determine THAT first.

The point of swearing in is that you are taking an oath on something you believe in. For him, the bible may as well be a comic book. Doesn't mean anything to him. But swearing loyalty on the koran, in which he believes strongly, is what counts.

There have been past members who have sworn on the Tora, and the Catholic bible, the NIV, King James.

They are swearing thier oath on the book, not swearing their alliegance TO the book.

Point.

I guess i'd take, "Origin of the Species", which I have never read in it's entirety. Like most believers and their particular book of beliefs.

Well put.

He made a darn clever move getting the Library of Congress to lend him TJ's Koran. That was very nice work, IMHO.
Agreed. Interesting move.

The Yemeni grocer in my neighborhood and his two sons are devout Muslims and are eminently likeable, decent people, IMHO. I don't think Islam is the foundation of our problems with the likes of OBL, etc. They object to the loss of their national/cultural prestige and the manipulation of their lands. We're not responsible for their decline but we do behave as though they are ours to control, manipulate, etc.

If this were one incidence, I'd be agreeing with you. Do you not see a pattern in it all tho? With his association with the nation of islam and then wanting to distance himself from it when it gets out? My question is what is this person? Where does his loyalty lie? Having seen what our muslim service people do, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him
