Anyone use one of these tape measures?

http://www.amazon.com/Zircon-58430-Ultrasonic-Measure-Targeting/dp/B00006K017/sr=8-18/qid=1167852639/ref=sr_1_18/102-9113925-6241700?ie=UTF8&s=hi

I don't need 1/16 of an inch accuracy. I just need some good numbers when I client wants to know the size of a room.

That would be an absolute pia if you are using it to sq. foot and lay out rooms. I always drew diagrams on a single sheet of paper. You may have 15 shots in a room with some neat features with that laser, where as you can throw that 1" tape on the floor and practically walk around the room taking measurements quickly.

They work well hattie and are a must have, don't listen to those punks they can advise you on Monte Blanc's and stuff but thats about it.

He needs basic dimensions for listings and a tape is more of a pia because you have to find a clear run with no furniture.

I have never seen a realtor use one in a high end market one time.

We had them at our flooring business, but didn't use them for estimating because unless you were only shooting four lines, it took forever. The only people period I have seen use them with regularity are hvac contractors and granite counter installers who take the extra time to get exact measurments.

In all honesty I have not seen a Realtor without one, high, middle, low beneath or even Michigan

Yeah, but the market sucks so bad there, there are probably only like 3 realtors, so they buy useless trinkets to keep away the boredom

Another problem with tape measures is that they need two people to operate.

We used one that was a Zeiss or some other European brand for rough field dimensions and it was really a timesaver when you are talking dimensions over 30'. They are great for rough dimensions so it should suit your purposes fine. I would never trust it for anything like exact dimensions for cabinets etc. Also, I think Zircon is a fairly cheap brand so watch out for the quality.

Then there is the question of who is going to hold the stupid end.

This was never a problem for me measuring residential homes up the wall at outside corners and on the floor, and no I don't have abnormally long arms

In a past life I used to own a carpet cleaning and building maintenance company. I regularly had to make the same types of measurements. I used a roll-a-tape instead. If something is in your way, just move aside and keep rolling. Works like a charm.

Thank you thats about what I was looking for! A regular tape is a pita if the room is full of stuff, and takes longer. Plus some clients would probably think its cool, people love gadgets.

Yes its quite slow these days, so we end up sitting around and buying cool stuff.
