Architeuthidae Flatulence/Bermuda Triangle
Based on my research I believe giant squid farts result in the lack of boyancy of vessels and huge plums of methane gas could be downing aircraft.
Then again, I could be wrong.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_squid http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/10/22/1066631498889.html?from=storyrhs |

Squid Farts? I'm surprised that there aren't more unexplained happenings over the OD section of this forum.

If flatulence can cause things like that, they'd better make the area above this place a no-fly zone!

I once worked with a guy that had been a well-logger. They were drilling with a semisub in, I believe, Cook Inlet, made unexpected contact with some high pressure gas which managed to washout around the surface casing and allowed the gas to escape into the ocean underneath the rig. Most of the crew abandoned the rig but he stayed on with the ballast engineer and a small crew working to control the well.
So much gas was entrained into the water that the rig was in constant danger of capsizing. He said the ballast engineer was on the controls for something like 36 straight hours keeping it all upright while the crew worked to control the well.

So what was that, Randy? Natural gas? It must have been pretty hairy if there was that much turbulence.

Yep, natural gas. It isn't the turbulence; the problem is the reduced/incosistent bouyancy of the ocean because the high pressure escaping gas is entrained in the water. Of course, the gas is explosive, adding to the fun.
