Razor Phone

I searched for threads on the Motorola Razor cell phone but didn't find anything. I know some of you have these. What do you think of them? Strong points? Weak points? etc.

I would also like to upgrade, and I am curious about the durability of these phones. My current phone is a bottom of the line Samsung, and I've beat the hell out of it. Broken, glued back together, etc. Never had one single problem with it. Because of this, buying a new phone has made me nervous. I would love to have a Razor, though. I would like to hear form people who have dropped these phones.

I really like mine, I have the black version.

Caveats - it's made of metal and real glass, so if you drop it the metal will hold up but the glass can and will break. Happened to mine.

Good news is that you can get replacement parts CHEAP. This website/company completely rocks.

http://www.cnn.cn/shop/

I ordered a new faceplate, car charger and glass cover for $25 CDN, shipping included. Arrived within a week from Hong Kong. The car charger alone would have cost me over $40 from Rogers. It was an authentic Motorola charger as well, not OEM. I was able to easily replace the broken glass cover (it comes with adhesive already on it, like a sticker). The rest of the phone survived the impact just fine. I ordered a couple of parts, so I now have backups in case it drops again.

Pros - nice features, great reception. For me, the best feature of the phone is the mini-USB connection. This means you can easily charge the phone from your PC while you work, via the USB port. You can also add files, data, ringtones, etc. into the phone this way. You can download the phone software on the net.

So all in all, I really like the phone. It's slim, attractive and well-made. The metal keypad is fantastic! I've had mine over a year now. Battery still holds a charge well.

2ea - so far, so good.

My 7 yo son and 9 yo daughter each have one (black and pink). They seem to be happy with them. They keep them in a weather tight little cell phone zippered pouches we picked up at Cabela’s. Perfect fit. We put a little carabineer on each one to hook to belt loops, day packs or whatever. They even wear them under their chest guards when on the dirt bikes. So the phones do get a good bouncing around. No problems with them yet.

What, are you stupid or something?! Anyone who knows a damn thing about electronic devices would know the pink one does. Geezzz dude. Get with the program.

(he knows I'm joke'n Chris - back off)

Seriously -
I just saw where Chris noted “the black version” and figured I’d throw that in too. Hell if I knew if there was/is a dif or not. Maybe the touch pads were styled a little dif? Wouldn’t think so, but you never know these days. And beyond quickly loading the “ICE” numbers in. I never really looked that close. And, haven’t done much with them since.

Edit - Gee, won't I feel stupid if he comes back and teaches me that there really is a difference.

I hear the battery life on them is so-so... That's about all I know about them.

Are there alternative batteries for them. My old Startac had several possibilities battery-wise. I had heard that battery life was an issue with the Razor.

I think my battery comment was right then.

Look in to the Samsung A900... slim like the Moto, but I think a better phone.

I got a Razr V3M as a gift for the holidays. It's OK to use but sometimes annoying such as entering in the passcode for the VM. The display reads properly for the code but the VM voice reads it back incorrectly?? What's up with that?

I am still learning it though such as trying to figure out why one phone number dials in speakerphone but none of the others do? Strange.

I love mine, its as good as any other phone. But its thin so it sits in your pocket real nice, thats what sold me.

They are not that durable, but I don't beat my stuff only a couple of nicks so far. Battery life is decent, not as long as other phones I have had.

I get a new phone every two years because of my contract with Verizon, so we will see if it lasts another 18 months.

I dunno if anyone has mentioned this yet, but:

-If you're anywhere noisy, you will not hear anything. It has a real low volume.
-It is fragile... its metal casing will dent wasily.
-As mentioned, battery life is weak... must be charged overnight... every night.
-Mine is glitchy: It has software problems here and there.

Obviously, the all-out-pimpness of the phone outweighs all of these weaknesses, and in the spirit of looking like a true pimp daddy, I give this phone a 10/10 rating.

P.S> The speakerphone is hella good.

I have one: Cool looking, but a piece of $h!t... and I'm stuck with it until this summer, when I'm eligible for an upgrade from Cingular... At which time I'll be getting the new iPhone. .

Get a Nokia or an LG. The RAZR is the 2nd Motorola phone I've bought, and they both sucked.

Heh, not to be offensive, but...

..I find it hilarious when people call it the "razor". I'm pretty sure the phone is the "razr", and I can only picture someone holding their Mach 3 up to their ear, wondering why it gets horrible reception.

...and why their phone is leaving three horizantal cuts on the side of their face.

(Just joking around here, but heh... pretty sure it's a Razr. It's the 'hip' thing to mis-spell words intentionally, for the sake of marketing!)
