Dont they have anything better to do?
OK, so cops around my area are wickked. They even go so extreme as to hide in the brush with radar guns what loosers. seriously why do cops have to go to such extremes? it makes me affraid to even drive anymore. Infact last night i got pulled over. I have 2 Mercedes w123 cars, with the fog lights that everyone hates. THey are mounted right next to the headlights and i always get flashed when i have them on. Expecially when i have my EUro out cause the fogs on that one are clear and it looks like brights. So anyway, the cop pulls me over to inform me that my brights are on. and he said it in such a way that he was happy to point out my "obvious" fault. I then informed him that that they were not on. Of course being a cope he disagreed. I asked him " do u mean the yellow lights?" (at the time i was driving my American version 300D) he said "yea, your brights" i said no, those are not my brights, those are my fog lights. then i procceeded to to show him that when i turned the brights on the fog lights turned off. He told me that thier is no fog and that i should not be using them then (obviously pissed off the i pointed out his fault) i then asked him why do i see that every other car have both head and fog lights on? if not just thier fog lights? and that obviously their was no problem thier. Well apparently i got to cocky cause he threatened to throw me in jail for insabordination or somthing. so i stoped their and went on my way.
so the point is this was at 10 PM.i wasn't even speeding. shouldnt he be looking for a drunk driver or sombody that is speeding instead of trying to point out somthing that he knows nothing about.

1. Don't piss off your local law enforcer.
2. When in doubt, refer to rule #1.

They're getting bad around here too. Went so far as to issue a radio message for anyone who notices speeders in their area to call a number and put a stop to it.... Cops are pathetic, it takes a special kind of piece of s**t to become one in the first place. Dont bother with the fact that crime is rising pretty much everywhere, get the evil speeders and drunk drivers that hardly ever hit anyone but other drunks, they're safer than murderers and rapists and child molesters, those guys have guns!

They aren't there to protect and serve, they are there to write the report afterward...I have never called them to help me in my whole life, I have only called them to write accident reports, which as often as not, are written poorly or incorrectly.
I think it's pathetic that they place so much importance on revenue enhancement/traffic tickets for chickens##t stuff. That's not law enforcement, that's simple bullying.

They are never thier when you need them. like when u see a drunk driver on the road and no one pulls him over. also i remeber the one time i needed a cop to DO THIER JOB, they failed. at my work i had someone try to break into my car. turns out i knew who it was. when i went to get the police report (that i specifically asked her to file) she never made the report. also the one time i parked on the other side of the street, within 5 mins i got a ticket, when i ran out thier to explain to her that i had to drop somthing off and i was moving to the car, she said tough.... and still to this day i see a bunch of cars parked on the wrong side of the street.

Most be time to catch up on the quota. This morning to school some jerk had his brights on the whole time behind me.... Same thing when coming home from surfs place. Back country road and a jerk in a lifted truck with his fogs and high beams... I was going speed limit and this jerk is on my tail. Their was heavy traffic on the left so I slowed down to about 30 until he got the idea and went off the side of the road, fish tailed and tried to pass me in the grass.. what an idiot... I think he got stuck in the sugar sand ... piss me off will you

True. You never know when you are going to need them to fill out the report so you can claim insurance.

Years ago, I was also stopped for a non-moving violation, and was quiet annoyed. As the officer approached the vehicle, I opened my window and fired my first salvo, "So, making random stops today officer?" Needless to say, it went downhill from there.

Police don't have quotas they just need to show that they're "on the job" and that one may just be on everyone's case. Complaining about the foglights is petty and pointless it's not like you have them aimed at the rearview to begin with they're aimed low to illuminate the roadway.....but it's not like he cares.
The W116 has them below the bumper so in an argument it's pretty clear they're not the primary headlights. The police should have given you a receipt for the claim at the time so that you can track it because if it goes missing then it's their fault. |

Looking at your "profile" - you're a young "pup" Maybe the cop doesn't care for "little whippersnappers" driving expensive cars while they "slave" for the public good while barely getting paid to have their @$$es shot off for little bucks. Also, cops don't take too well to getting taught a lesson in public. Even when it's just you and him - alone. Best thing to do is realize this: They are the ones with loaded weapons - coffee on their breathe and powered-sugar dust on the uniforms. You are unarmed, slow-witted and probably hungry. Sounds like a "vinegar/oil" mix to me. Just do your best to bite your tongue and go with the flow. As any good lawyer will advise you ... Just answer the question, don't elaborate or give out too many details. Be polite and courteous. If you feel like you're having to kiss @$$, then you're going a good job. Remember, he has the power. The power to either write you up for any, and all, infractions that may, or may not, be there ... OR ... he can give you a "lecture" and let you go. My vote? Kiss - kiss - kiss. Not enough? Kiss again. And when you're done? Offer to shake his hand, tell him he's doing a good job and hope you're sincere enough that he's not insulted. Points and insurance rates stick around A LOT LONGER than the stain of "taking one for the team" - particularly at 2200 at night or 0200 in the morning. Yep, they pulled you over - that's what they're trained to do when THEY believe they have a drunk driver on their hands - one of the signs they use is "brights" on or fog lights on when there's no fog...drunks USUALLY (profiling here) fail to dim their lights when there's oncoming traffic. It happened to me in the Dells area a few years back. 0200 in the morning (Bar time) on a Sunday morning - I just pulled off I-90/I-94 and I'm heading into town on a median-divided 4-lane. Oncoming car, in the far-right lane "flashes" me that I have my brights on - I "de-bright" but he pulls a "U" and lights up his "cherries" and pulls me over. Reason? Even though I dimmed, his training taught him that I may be a drunk driver. Was I? Nope. Just a traveler fresh off the Interstate. No harm, no foul, so no ticket. Believe me, he was, and will continue to, look for and get off the highway, drunk drivers. At 0200 in the morning, should I be pissed that he thought I was a drunk? Life's to short to piss and moan about your safety. For every one or five of me, he manages to get one drunk, that's good "policing" to me. Better he meets the drunks than me or my friends. On a side-note: I have many friends who are in the Law-enforcement field - FBI - State, County and City officers and officials. My brother-in-law was on-duty when he was hit and nearly killed by a drunk-driver. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to lecture anyone on the board here about drinking & driving. I'm just pointing out that the techniques officers use to catch drunk drivers are exactly that - techniques and proven screw-ups that scream "I'm a drunk! Stop me before I kill myself or someone!" And, when you look at it in that light, isn't that what we all REALLY want?

The best answer to the foglights is "sorry officer I didn't realize they were on, there's no illumination on the knob and my color perception is not so good at night, thanks for letting me know it's a new car to me etc etc....."
