What so good about an '84 500SEC ?

HI I am shopping again this week end and will be going down to check on an '84 500SEC.

All I know so far is ....MERCEDES 500 SEC, 2DR COUPE, UPGRADED 04 WHEELS, COLD A/C, SUNROOF, GREAT PAINT, WINDOW TINTS, RUNS SMOOTH,.....
and the asking price;
Also it is at a private dealer lot & he says it was a trade in from the original owner & there are service records.
Charcoal ext/ Burgandy interior clean looking from pic's

Anyone like TW have any experience with this model????

Thanks all advice is welcome !!!!

Buyer's guides

Check www.mbcoupes.com and www.sec-shop.com for them, to start.
They have buyers's guides. They've been discussed here from time to time also, the search function here might help.

I'd buy the SEC,and ask questions later.keep in mind this coming from someone who owns one of each,plus a few others.

I agree with walgamuth,and laronda both.
The particular care gon into a car is vital to its long term life.
The best 500 could be niglected,and a p.o.s. Yugo could outlast it.
It depends a lot on the owner.My father buys a newer car every two or three years because he kills them.The chev.station wagon he has now,which I bought him two years ago is shot.the car was a low mileage,well cared for car before he got his hands on it.The oil and filter,or anything else for that matter hasn't been touched since he got it from the dealer,when he took delivery of it.The oil is only checked once in a while when I insist,he allow me to. Next year by this time he'll be looking for another.You can't go 30 thousand miles w/o touching the oil,and expect the car to last very long.For a stupid $20 oil change every few months,all of it could be avoided.He leased a new truck,and traded it in with the original oil filter on it 3 years later.The dealer somehow knew,and went berserk over the whole matter,and didn't even want it back.Thenwhen something goes wrong with his vehicle,he calls it a p.o.s. and every other name in the book.I'll never be like that,and want my vehicles to last forever if I can help it.Atleast,outlast me.After that,I suppose it won't matter,since I regretably,can't take them with me....lol.
