I guess criminals really ARE stupid

I saw this on MSN this morning. Amazing!

Updated: 1:34 p.m. ET Jan 21, 2007
LINDENHURST, N.Y. - Three thieves who allegedly stole 14 global positioning system devices did not get away with their crime for long. The devices led police right to their home.

Town officials said the thieves did not even know what they had: they thought the GPS devices were cell phones, which they planned to sell.

According to Suffolk County police, the GPS devices were stolen Monday night from the Town of Babylon Public Works garage in Lindenhurst. The town immediately tapped its GPS system, and it showed that one of the devices was inside a house. Police said that when they arrived there, Kurt Husfeldt, 46, had the device in his hands.

Yeah I heard about that on Friday, sounds like they didn't even know what the GPS devices were, just that they must've been expensive

About 15 or so years ago we had a really hilarious thing happen here in Huntington.

This thief broke into the office of a local attorney/real estate agent which was located up a flight of stairs in an historic building. In the morning upon opening the front doors the bloody and mangled body of the "thief"was sprawled upon the bottom stairs while the 6 foot high, wheeled safe apparently had collapsed on to of him whilst he attempted to slide it down the stairway, did quite bit of damage to the wainscoting and tiled floors.

Made the local papers,Newsday, the Long Islander, etc. and was the subject of endless jokes for years afterwards.

Omigod! What a tragedy! Were they able to find proper replacement tile?

I'm surprised that atty wasn't sued by the thief's family for not posting a warning or something about the weight of the safe, etc. That's just plain irresponsible!

Ever hear about the case where a man was convicted of some crime in Miami, I think? He had his business broken into repeatedly through an attic crawl space.

He installed something that was the equivalent of an electric fence in this crawl space. The thief got electrocuted. The business owner was then villified, charged with some crime, and then sued by the criminal's family. Un-Effing-believeable!
