What if ?

What if you got up some morning and Mercedesshop wasn't there and wasn't coming back. We need a backup plan. Like when you have a fire at home,,, everyone is supposed to meet down by the mailbox. I feel I "know" a lot of folks here after hanging around for 5 years, and would certainly miss all the imput and diversity that greets me every morning. It's probably a stupid thought, but, and this is certainly no jab at you Bill, what if ?

It's happened before. Twice.

Oh wait, you mean ALL of the website and not just O.D.? That would be a tragic loss. There is such a huge accumulation of talent and knowledge on this website that it would be difficult and time-consuming to reconstruct it elsewhere.

Remember the Black Out of 1-22-07 at 10:00a.m. Eastern Time? Panic and fear struck my chest as I went to access the Forum and got these words in giant letters :FORBIDDEN ACCESS. I think we should have an e-mail tree, like a phone tree then we can set up an Im. I would be very sad if I didn't have the Forum in my life, its like a fraternity to eternity.

Oh great, just what I need....something else to be paranoid about.

ok...whether I'm paranoid or not...a backup plan, someplace to reconvene is probably a good idea.

Having mercedesshop.com dissappear would be bad karma for those responsible. really bad karma I mean, really really bad karma....the kind that is worse than finding camel lice in your underwear.

Perish the thought. My entire life's work has been posted on this website.

I used to post pretty regularly on Braintalk which is a board devoted mostly to neurological problems. It went down this past year for a long time--months. A lot of people were pretty upset because it was as important to them as the 'shop is to us. Finally, someone set up an alternative website but it was hard to find. The original came back into existence recently. There was a wealth of medical information and personal experience lost for a long time.
On the diesel discussion alone there is such a breadth of knowledge that it would be impossible to duplicate in any one person's mind. It contains the mechanical knowledge of hundreds of diesel heads all accessible in a moment. If the board went down there'd be a lot of old diesels coming to a grinding halt.

I can forsee that in the future of the internet someone will devise just such a backup plan, but that's WAY out of my expertise to come up with anything more than the problem.

This site is backed up weekly or possibly even daily. It's not going anywhere people, even if it does go down for a bit it will always come back.

Are you actually serious trucnkinik?

God! If anything ever happened to this site, I don't know WHAT I'd do. I'd, . . I'd, . . .well, I'd probably start doing my job again . . . or sumthin'.

Camel lice in underwear now that's an oxymoron.

This site isn't going anywhere, but we should have a plan!

Lets see we can all meet in Benzworld, or at MBworld.org hows that sound? I know most of the heavy posters here are on MBworld.org's off topic forum, along with just about everyone who has been banned for various reasons.
