Interesting recent Poll..

I just found out that recently in a poll conducted by the office, of the govenor of Texas asked whether people who live in Texas think illegal immigration is a serious problem.

35% Of the respondants answered : " Yes, it is a serious problem."

65% Of respondents answered : " No es una problema seria." :silly:

The only local plumbing supply wholesaler is staffed entirely by hispanics, don't get me wrong,I speak Spanish fluently and have no trouble with that but it does make one wonder.........why?

Maybe they are the only ones skinny enough to comply with a no crack rule.

My take is that a lot of gringos think that trades work is not good enough for them. I read now and then about people getting laid off from some high tech or other white collar job who look to retrain in some blue collar position.

They're going to have a hard time outsourcing home-remodel. They'll just let in more immigrants to do it for less than I will. :(

But, that'll take a while and eventually they'll want as much as me, so it might not be too bad...

You are correct Sir.
You see there are 2 Carleton Hughes's...1 is a very capable mechanic who can fix everything from an oil burner to a car, including all household repairs...The other is a sick, tired debauchee who reels at the thought of manual labor and seeks surcease from his illnesses in drink and drugs.

Since C.H.'s income partially derives from maintaining hovels,C.H.must do the work himself since entrusting it to others generally has ended in failure, fair balance, what?

i have an aquaintance who says the the folks from mexico who come up to work are ruined when they learn how to speak english.

that means they learn the value of their labor and no longer give him bargain prices.

You just wait pal..The grameneros {lawn and leaf guys}pull down 10-15 bucks an hour.

The carpenters and rough-in plumbers get 30-50 per hour, and yes,the majority are from central america.

Me,I'm too stupid to go into the why's and wherefore's of this phenom,American lassitude?manual labor beneath the average hoople?seems like it from my perspective and area.

I can tell you the "americans"I've hired for construction work have been querulous, hesitant and generally uncooperative while the central americans are fast, reliable and seldom make mistakes, they're go-getters,and that's jake with me.

This is not intended to be a wholesale indictment of American laziness and entitlement but there you are.Draw your own conclusions and remember, opinions are like ass*oles...everybody has one.

t walgamuth 02-05-2007 08:23 AM

yeah, he said it some years back.

may not be true anymore.

My wife teaches at a mostly Hispanic city high school. One of her students came in with a T-shirt which read;

"Let My People Mow"

A rather trim phrase.
