i just picked it up an figured i might as well hear more about the interesting girl group who got in hot water for exercising their freedom of speech.

i had never really listened to any of their music before so i didn't even know what they sounded like.

they come across as very morally sound individuals who stood up for their beliefs and put their money where their mouths were.

when the country stations basically refused to play them they came back by doing completely new music which appealed to a different demographic.

it probably has not hurt them that the war is now not popular.

i think that the music which i grew into an adult with the late sixties and seventies music gained a lot by the anti war element. the beatles before they became anti war were just happy musicians meaning making happy music. the anti war lyrics gave the music depth and meaning. most of the great musicians all did anti war music. beatles, crosby, stills, nash and young; and many others.

the war(s) gave focus.

there was of course over the top patriotic feelings back then too. many slogans sound familiar today....america, love it or leave it... (convewrsely) ...draft beer not students...

anyway i enjoyed the movie.

and i think i will go buy some of their music.

BTW back then i didn't march or burn any buildings. but i was against the war in vietnam, too. as back then i didn't understand how some folks could hold it against the foot soldiers, i have a hard time seeing how folks in 2003 could call or write death threats to these girls because they dared to criticize our president.
