Dreams

Do you pay attention to your dreams or believe in dream interpretation?

I had an awful dream. In the dream I'm in Boston at the airport and my friends are seeing me off. I go to use the rest room. I'm in the stall, the guy in the next stall says he needs toilet paper so I turn, reach over and give him a roll of toilet paper. As I'm giving him the tp someone reaches over the other side of my stall and takes my carry-on. I quickly leave the stall, look out the restroom window and see my friend Mark running off with my carry-on in the distance.

This dream has me scared because I don't know why I would have such a dream. I guess in dream interpretation I should not trust my friend Mark? I've known Mark for 8 years and never had any problem with him. Incidentally, in the dream, Mark isn't one of the friends seeing me off at the airport, he just appears when my carry-on is stolen.

I think dreams are fascinating. Sometimes I can find some unconscious fear or hope in my dreams. Often I can see how a word I used the day before is interpreted by my mind in a completely different way and a weird dream is generated. When I was a kid I sometimes used to plot out interesting dreams before going to sleep.
I don't often put any serious weight into dream interpretation, although once in a while I find a weird fear I wasn't expecting.
Could your dream just be generated by some combination of words that put together your friend and the theft?
I can't see how there could ever be a systematic process for interpreting dreams because they seem to be generated in very different ways.

I don't dream much,, and I can only remember what happens in them occasionally. I also seem to dream more when there's a full-moon ,,, I know that sounds stupid,, maybe it's just coincidence.

I will say this though,, I don't have good dreams,, never have. They're not terribly dark or scary,,, just not positive. I don't personally believe that dreams can be interpreted in any meaningful way.

I frequently experience 'sleep paralysis',, where my brain wakes from REM sleep but my muscles are still paralysed. That used to be real scary,,, it manifests itself in different ways in different people but to me, it is a feeling of total paralysis, accompanied by what feels like someone lying on top of me,,, and not in the good way! Used to scare the hell out of me,,, but I've actually gotten used to it over the years.

Stay away from public restrooms and you will be fine.

Some dream imagery is symbolic. According to Jung those symbols transcend nationality, race or culture. Apparently some of those images are connected to our ancestral, biological memories.

Other dream imagery is just a way for us to resolve conflicts and work ou solutions to problems.

And some dreams are...well, just dreams.

As Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

My dreams are just random snapshots of things that happened to me that day.

I pay attention to dreams only when they reveal plots against me.

Julius Caesar should have paid closer attention then....

One other omen was that Caesar's wife had a dream, the night before Caesar was killed, that he was lying on the ground dead and she begged him to not go to the Senate that day and Caesar agreed. But later Caesar decided to go when he told a member of the senate to inform everyone he wasn't going and the senator said, "Would you like me to tell them that their Caesar couldn't meet today because his wife had a bad dream?"

A few years after I finished college, I would have recurring nightmares of still attending college, taking some extraordinary course load (like 35 semester hours), while trying in vain to attend all of the classes (which of course, overlapped each other).

These days, I'm too tired to remember any of my dreams. I only remember them if it involved some traumatic incident...oh yeah, they're called nightmares!

I find I remember my dreams far more readily if I wake up early and then go back to sleep for about an hour.

I've found that dreams are often my mind's way of alerting me to things my subconscious has recorded, but my conscious mind has filtered out during the day. We're bombarded with so much sensory overload during the day that we can't process all of it. Dreams bring it back to our attention later when we can attend to it.

That pretty much covers 90+% of my dreams.

I want your drugs.

Seriously, I've had some truly terrifying dreams that involved my inflicting serious bodily harm on someone. Scary stuff...

But this begs the question, how often does she play the numbers, presumably losing (nearly) every time?
