WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS for harsher sentences

1. Intense media exposure coverage

2. A VERY aggressive, persuasive prosecutor, hard chargers like BENZ-LGB who knows the law and persuade a judge and jury well to get a conviction and harsh sentence

3. LOUD and AGRESSIVE victims rights groups who are media savvy, understand the system the process, how the Criminal Justice system works, who can get face to face meetings with the Judge and Prosecutor to make their case, and can get victims and friends WRITTEN statements incorporated into the PRESENTENCE REPORT, which the Judge ALWAYS reads and considered. They carry a LOT more weight than individual letters, emails, and other communications that the Judge often never even reads at all.

4. Victims, friends and rights groups attending ALL court hearings, especially the sentencing. (But note, at sentencing, by then the Judge has usually made up his mind already as to the sentence.) The written presentence report is the crucial thing though.

Aklim to begin with yes, perhaps I am overly sensitive to these crimes of exploitation so for me it is an issue to me it seems there truly is no easy answer to combat this behaviour.....I would like to question your "suspending" or "removing" the constitution statement .. I ask you to think back to when these documents were written it was a different world. I do not believe that anyone wants to create a true "police" state or "communist" society as you imply. But one must agree that adaptation is critical. Both sides are equally valid and perhaps you are sensitive to our infrigments of rights by our gov.

In this case I pointed out this is blatant. On tape, redhanded...I aks how does reasonable guilt come into play? Other than a wrong identification that is...let's say for this example this guy is on drugs..chances are he will do it again and if caught in the act this time then why should he waste any more of society's time and money? At our expense he can now what? Find God? Reform? Do you want him living next door to you Aklim?...

On the purely economic level you are trying to imply that we should size crimes and perps to dollar amounts..or at least that's what I hear.. Perhaps in some cases Aklim yes you are right, unfortunately it seems most hotbed issues relvolve about one thing, money. How much is this costing me? How can those funds be appropriated like that? Why is it fair fat people pay for one ticket to fly even though they are bigger and take more room than most other humans? Why are the girlscout cookies shrinking and prices rising?

Unless it hits us in the pocket we as a whole do not stand up and say something about anything in particular. Perhaps more so than this being my pet issue as you put, you should examine what these crimes cost you and all of us...not just in the financial terms but in the way we have to live our lives today compared to how the state of the nation was 30 years ago. I have my own reasons for concern with these issues..

I guess I am with Hatteras, I couldn't be a good, honest cop because I would feak on some wacko big time......The good news is that doesn't mean I can't go into politics though...

Sure. There is a way to change the constitution. Do it legally and have it ratified by a majority of the states.

That is besides the point. What do you want to do with the constitution? Have it say that if it is blatant, summary execution. Otherwise, go thru due process?

As opposed to what? Wheel of fortune punishment? Spin the wheel and see what you rate? All the way from a pardon to slow and painful death? Fat people pay for one ticket and take up 2 spaces because it is a PC issue. Girl scout cookies go up in price and shrink in size because of inflation. $1 bought a whole lot more when I was a kid than today.

I haven't noticed that much of a change in the last 20 years.

As I said, definately not a doctor or a nurse. The wife has had many a person chained to the bed or something like that. What about an accountant? Nope. Somebody might be a crook. Bartender? Nope. Guy might get drunk and beat up his wife. Politician? Probably not. People on the fringe are few.
