Garbage In Space.......

I would have never guessed we had that many satellites orbiting the earth.
Pretty soon we're going to need space junkyards.

According to the site, 95% of the stuff tracked IS debris!

I wonder if NASA accounts for it when they launch anything in space? Consider the damage (and possible fatalities) that could occur if a 24,000-mph spacecraft gets t-boned by a 5000-lb. piece of junk, travelling orbitally at 2000 mph?!!!

Could be wrong but I thought the average orbit speed was around 20 K mph and up. Getting hit by a piece of pea gravel going the opposite direction would be pretty serious at those speeds.

Free Speech TV had a piece on the militarization of space and a former astronaut was saying that the first space war would be the last cuz each explosion creates untold numbers of space junk, in bizarre orbits, that will remain for years making much of any space travel next to impossible.
