The bottom line of this question is- Is this a good buy for an older model? I took a 1983 300D out for a test dirve today. Feels solid, but of course slow accerleration. Handles smoothly, brakes are good. Tires are good, but rims look aged, or maybe that is accumulated road crud. Some deterioation on the body, near the wheel wells. Car is gold, w/ a 4or 5 year paint job by the former owner. Sunroof works.
Interior has wear and tear, but nothing horrid. Engine sounds good, and it doesn't hiccup, cough or splutter. The odomometer is broken, so the seller estimates the mileage at 200,000 + anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 or even 20,000. Asking price is $800. Is this a good buy?

There are several more variables to be considered, however, if it starts quickly while the engine is stone cold, then I would pay $800. Check the tires for uneven wear - unless you enjoy doing front end work.

Re: More Variables ?
Thank you.....You mentioned more variables......could you give specifics?
It did start right up from cold, and the seller said that in the Middle TN winter it will start slower. Will check the tires, thanks! |

Should be a turbo model so the slow acceleration is probably fixable. Seems like a good price. Post the question over on the diesel discussion for more answers.
