Question Printer reccommendations please?

Hey Guys/Gals,

I'm done with Epson cr@p. After three of their printers, I've had it with lousy reliability.

Soooo, I was wondering what other members use for their printing needs. My needs are simple: I need a color printer that is reliable and user friendly. I don't have a need for high photo quality as I'd rather use a professional shop to print out pictures. My price range can be anywhere up to about $130.

So if reliablity and ease of use are the only factors, what's your picks?

DELL is supposed to have an excellent color laser printer(s). I've had a couple of QMS/Minolta units...I can't recommend them.

Bottom line: printers are cheap, consumables are $$$. I don't know of any way to shift that equation in your favor

FWIW, I've got a $99 HP color inkjet at home...it does an impressive job for such a modest machine. Cartidges are $$$$.

I have an HP officejet 5510 all in one scanner copier printer... POS!

I just picked up a Canon ip4100. Haven't yet tested it but at first it seems pretty good. Multiple cartridges which means you can replace one at a time if one color runs out.

Whoa buddy!

I got an HP C3180 from BestBuy about 8 months ago, and they still sell it. Its and all in one, and I got it for like 79 bucks. Its fast, durable (college tested), and the cartridges are inexpensive. The blacks like 12 bucks, and the color is like 14-15 bucks. The scanner/copier/memory card reader are simple and easy to use too!

I got the bestbuy warranty too. If something happens to it, I can take it back, and they will replace it! Gotta love it.

I've got an HP 4215v all-in-one @ Staples last year for around $80.00. Works great and no problems yet. My 2 cents.

For color you cant beat Cannon for low costs per page. Replace just the color you run out of.

For black the HP 1020 laser is dirt cheap and the toners can be had for $36 online.

I don't think that Dell actually manufactures their printers. I believe they signed a deal with Lexmark such that Lexmark manufacturer's the printer and puts Dell's name on it.
For what its worth I have an HP 952c printer that I bought in 1998 and its still going strong. When it breaks I'll replace it with another HP.

Bottom line is, INKJET PRINTERS ALL SUCK. Regardless of the brand name, they are all 100% useless garbage.

If you need to print color, get a laser or LED printer. For $130, it ain't gonna happen. $130 will buy you 1 of the 4 toner cartridges.

Spend $400 or so and get an Okidata or similar printer.

End of rant.

The HP I have now, is way better than the Epson I used to have (and the cartridges are cheaper too).
If it weren't for the $, I'd get a laser printer.

I just bought an HP Officejet Pro K550 Series about a month ago and REALLY like it! Fast with large ink tanks. Heavy duty printer with a good price.

Like with cars, I never buy new computers or printers.
There are a lot of laser printers that have come off lease from large businesses that can be had for a fraction of their original cost. I use an old HP 4M Plus for my black printing - a real workhorse. Added a duplexer and another paper tray.
For color I picked up a Tektronix Phaser 560 laser for $50 with very low page count (had slight cosmetic damage). New toner cartridges can be bought on Ebay anytime for $10 to $20 and give a page yield of about 6000. Not quite photo quality but close. By far the most economical way to go if you have the space.

Those old big Tektronix Phaser were one of the best color printers of its era. Great buy today. I really like and have owned currently or at one time the HP old B/W laser printers - HP laserjet 4 plus, 5, 4000, 4050, and 4100. They go at least 6500 pages on one toner in which you can get for sometimes less then $20 on eBay. They are also great with a Duplexer (for double sided printing), can be networked, and not to mention you can get the printers cheap also.
