Funny Childhood Memories
The thread about Dr. Who and John Cleese brought this to mind. If you have a story to add please do so. My dad had a really dry sense of humor and loved Monty Python, one day I came over to his house and he was sitting in a lawn chair on the porch in front of a small sign he spray painted above the house numbers that read "Fawlty Towers." I cracked up laughing ,it turned out that both my brother and older sister lost their places and had to move back home for a while....

didnt the opening titles of Fawlty Towers always show the sign/nameplate of the hotel, but with different anagrams each episode?
I could be mixing this up with The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin, another britcom of the same era, tho its very possible both shows did it. Perrin worked at Sunshine Desserts, and as he entered the building each morning, a different letter would have fallen off the sign

I just happened to remember going with my mother (a very prim and proper Southern lady) to a furniture store once when I was very young, about 7 or 8. This store was spread throughout several buildings and at one point, we had to go out of one and across an alley to a second building.
The door was stuck as we tried to enter the second building and she twisted and pulled, and yanked on the door knob until finally it came out. Suddenly. She went flying backwards across that alley and landed on her distinguished bottom and ended up sitting there looking very chagrinned amidst the old newspapers and trash. I don't know which was bruised worse, Miss Betsey's bottom or her pride. It was one of the funniest things I ever saw. It looked like something right out of I Love Lucy!

Whirling back to 1964: Against parental standing orders, Pre-School Paul left the front yard, walked down the block and crossed the street to visit the local variety/drugstore just to say hi to the nice people who worked there. As I left, one of those bastards dimed me out to my old man. As I arrived back in the front yard, I spotted my father in the front doorway. "Come here Paul, I've got a surprise for y-o-o-o-u!" he smilingly purred in a highly melodic voice. With a big expectant grin on my face, I heeded my father's beckon. Sitting down afterward was a bit of a challenge, at least until 1966.

I was raised on a farm just outside Columbus Ohio. Lots of land to play on and be a happy kid. We almost always had some sort of gas powered vehicle to play with. Two very vivid memories from said gas powered toys. The first involves me bringing my frozen mini bike into the house to thaw so that I could ride it on a cold winter day. So it sat in the house for an hour or so till I just couldn't wait any longer. Outside we went and what do you know, the throttle froze wide open as I was going as fast as possible!!! Oh yeah, no kill switch either, just a metal peice over the spark plug to ground it out!!! Talk about racing stripes in your shorts....wow!!!
 The next involves me riding my go cart through an area that we kept one of our dogs chained up in. Well, we hadn't cleaned the dog poo up in quite some time and I decided to run my go cart through it. Half way through I cut the wheel hard and spun out in a bunch of poo which completely covered me!!! My dad was standing there watching the whole thing and I can tell you I've never seen him laugh so hard!!! I wasn't too happy but then again what kid likes to take a poo shower???

Wasn't funny then, but is now...
Completed building my Estes model rocket. Time to paint. Too windy outside, so I decided to paint the rocket in the basement rec room. Spread out newspaper liberally. Painting commenced. Rocket painted and sits somewhere to dry. Removed newspaper. Discover a large rectangular outline of paint overspray on the linoleum tile. Apparently not enough newspaper coverage. No problem, we have paint stripper! Remember the gel formulated "Stripeeze"? I get a mop and bucket. Pour the contents into the bucket. FULL STRENGTH! I mop liberally across the linoleum floor. Paint comes off easily...so does the linoleum floor pattern! Mom enters the room just in time to see a 25 sq. ft. void where the linoleum pattern used to exist. She goes ballistic. I know my Dad will kill me within an inch of my life. Dad comes home. Mom escorts him over to view my latest home-wrecking effort. My Dad slumps to the floor in disbelief. Apparently too weak to tear my a$$ at that point. A large throw rug covered the affected area for years until we sold the house...
