Evolution in no way contradicts the idea of a Creator, only the LITERAL interpretation of Genesis. The reason that so many people associate evolution with atheism is because many atheists refer to evolution as disproving a Creator. In fact some evangelicals do see it this way, but Joe Schmo American does not, or at least I hope he doesn't.

Thanks
David

Europeans are descended from the apes. Americans came fully formed out of the Garden of Eden.

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up, David. I guess that's the way I always took it (evo=atheist). Like I said, I don't think much about either in my grand scheme of things. Pretty obvious huh

Some of what people (particularly fundamentalists) like to read literally is myth (that doesn't mean it's not true. It only is a type of literature used to explain the unexplainable such as events which ocurred before there were historians around to record them). If you read things with an eye to the type of literature they are, you'll come a lot closer to understanding what the author meant.

I once wrote a paper which drew parallels between pagan religions (those outside of the Hebrews) and evolutionary thinking. It was an interesting exercise.
