NOLA folks, how is progress on upgrading levees?

do you see action in this regard?

there is not much being reported on the national media outlets?

There was a show on the Discovery Channel awhile back documenting some of the levee restructuing efforts going on. A monumental task that will take years to complete.

At one area the crew was working, they had to dismantle a crane from the turret and hoist it over the canal with another crane, since the equipment exceeded to load limit of the bridge over the canal...it was interesting, because the crane was manuufactured in the 1950s and they had to remove several large bolts removed that were bolted on for 50-odd years!

It's progressing as fast as unlimited money will allow. The hope and intention is to have a completed and improved levee and pumping system in place before this year's hurricane season. Still lots of forensic engineering going on though.

your right, it is easy to say from Wisconsin... And anywhere else. My opinion isnt unique. Relying on a wall to keep back water isnt a good idea. History has proven that mother nature always wins against mankind.

Not trying to be offensive, but u know, it's just not a good idea living below sea level.

Srry if my opinions make u mad, just remember who I am in the great schem of things... Then think of who you are, and compair

I'm off to replace my escorts ball joints. They went from clunking, to making squeeking noises... Better replace them

no offense taken, nate.

we all are but pebbles on the sand.

but NOLA is a major port for our country. i think second largest in activity. the other things that happen there are subserviant to that.

look at holland. a whole country under sea level, or close to that.

the levees have to be built correctly and maintained correctly though.

Nola Folks

Well here is my two cent's where do you think you get your oil and gas from most of it is refined here and trucked out not to mention the natural gas and all the dry goods that come into port and shipped out to all the other states. With out better levee's you might be paying 6.00 a gallon for gas then you might even grab a shovel and a pick to come help!
And not to get on a soap box but the insurance company's are screwing us real bad home owners insurance went from 1700.00 a year to 4450.00
a year with a 3% deductible for a named storm and they don't want to pay for wind and hale damage to our home so what is the insurance for then. And lot's of nice people have donated their time and money to help
but i would like to know where is it all at i haven't seen a dime of it
i am still living in a 30ft camper with my wife and two teenage kids in my
driveway that i had to buy because you couldn't depend on FEMA or i would be just living in my driveway (Fix Everything My Ass)= FEMA still paying a mortgage on a house i can't live in and lost 80% of my business
but they don't tell any of this on the TV all they want to show is the poor people of the 9th ward. That is not the only place hit by the storm like Metairie,Kenner,Laplace, all of the west bank of the Mississippi
the media shows what they want you to know and not all the facts and i can say all this because i am here living it every day!

In Louisiana, if it weren't for oil & gas and stupendous commercial fishing, most of the population below I-10 would have never returned following Rita & Katrina.

I'm sorry to hear things are still in the state they are. My daughter went on a church mission trip to MS to help with rebuilding efforts this Spring. She was astounded at the devastation. Everyone I've spoken with says the same thing.

Good old NIMBY... I say build it --- but build it RIGHT. Spend the money we wasted in Iraq on it, and other UNITED STATES BASED IMPROVEMENTS.

Tell your daughter those efforts are appreciated! So many people (groups) have given sweat on the coast it's hard to keep up and recognize them all.

LAS769 - was that your 126 parked at the Intercontinental Hotel in NOLA this weekend?
