Do you think NASCAR races are "fixed"?
Tony Stewart came out this week and compared NASCAR to Pro Wrestling. He basically said that NASCAR throws out a caution flag for "debris on the track" whenever they want to tighten up the field and ultimately affect the outcome of the race.
I have thought this for a long time. Between caution flags and deciding who gets which tires, it seems to me that NASCAR is no better than Pro wrestling. That's one of the many reasons I have so little respect for this particular form of racing. |

Far more late race cautions are from dumb @$$es trying to do more than they are capable of than debris on the track. That said there isn't much of a margin for error with 200 mph cars. I'm far more of a local track racing fan than NEXTEL but I do enjoy watching the "Big Boys". Even though Greg Biffle has sucked going back to half-way through last season. |
The answer is yes.
And the reason is that NHRA is where the real races happen. NASCAR is just... well... NASCAR. ;) |
Uh, same demographic. No coincidence implied of course. :D

Are the races rigged? Does a bear poop in the woods?

One of the biggest reasons I can't stand the whole Nascar arena, and the way its fans are so passionate about it. Of course it's fixed. Every new rookie, comes out kicking A$$, and makes a name for himself, and then either fizzles out, because they don't have a lot of money backing them. Or makes it big because they do have a lot of money backing them. I haven't seen a guy actually work his way up, in the circuit, since the days of Richard Petty.
What the heck is with this new points system anyways? They don't even need to win the race now, to win the race...or become a champion. All they need to do, is make an appearance, and they have a shot at Daytona. If they show up, at enough events for the season, they secure a spot in the championship..If it was about racing, it would involve winning, or even finishing races, in order to move up in the ranks. So it's "He who has the most financial backing wins" Jr. sucks !!, and can't even compare to what his father was. So do most of these other boys out there on the track. They all drive like a bunch of 16 year old girls, and little old ladies. They can't even handle the cars they're in. They wreck on purpose half of the time simply for publicity. They should put some real drivers in those cars. Some old dirt track racers, and guys with an actual ability to drive, and legitimately race, to win, who care about what they are doing, and don't make such a big deal out of the cameras, commercials, sponsors, and money. I'd bet that if they took their mechanics, and put them in the cars, the races would be a lot more fun, and realistic. Make the guy tune his own carb, or adjust his own suspension.. Tell him, he gets a few thousand dollars per race, and he has to place, in the top ten, in order to get an xmas bonus. The more times he places in the top ten, the bigger the xmas bonus will be. Nascar has become so corrupt, and such a public joke, that I swear under my breath, every time I see a number sticker, or anything Nascar related, on some morons pick-up truck, or Essuvee. I was there, for Daytona this year. I was in town, that weekend, and was disgusted at the way people were acting, and trying to get tickets, and all of that. There must be a billion truckers into it, too. They talk about it on the C.B. radio, as if it were important, to their well being, and even come to fist fights at truck stops over it. Same goes for the whole Football sport, and SuperBowl, and Baseball, and the World Series crap. So much, for All American sports... What a bunch of crap.. |
Remember NASCAR is a business NOTHING more.
I want to do a class action. Stock Car is there any part in those cars that is remotely stock. Hey one race every car was running a Ford rear end !!! Note, I do enjoy watching it though !! I think they need to return to their roots. 1 set of tires, rain or shine, heck pump their own gas !!! Oh and max amount of gas per race, maybe 10 mpg minimum |
Fixed,,, no way. Would like to fix,,,, maybe. Too many variables to fix a race with 43 competitors. If it were fixed Kurt Bush would never have won a championship,,, too many people hate him.
|
Is 43 mostly the identical cars doing a bunch of left turns in a tight pack really even racing?
They are not even imaginably close to "stock" cars anymore, they are choked by lots of rules made to slow them down, they run antiquated carbureted engines and some tracks still use leaded gasoline. |
I don't really care its a lame form of racing. The cars are 50 year old technoligy, and don't really do anything. Its like watching the traffic camra on I95 in fast forward.

i dont think they necessarily try to fix each race. but the gratuitous cautions affect the racing and often the outcome. i think they just want to provide a great show.
i think on occasion they are not above conspiring to allow one person to win over another. like after dale's death i always felt that junior and michael were given a better plate. quite likely without their knowledge. and they never did anything to dale for wrecking folks. and nobody ever retaliated against him so i always figured that they felt they would be penalized if they did. i hate the plate races. they should knock down the banking and throw the plates away! the plates killed dale. pure and simple. i was not a dale fan. my $.02 tom w |
Bores me to death, plain and simple! I used to watch Wide World of Sports in the 70's just to watch wrecks during races, haven't sat down and watched a race since. I did take my kids to a 1/2 mile dirt track last summer...now that was racing. We got dirt in our hair, were damn near deaf afterward, but they had a ball. Some scary, backward people at that track too, I suspect the demographics at a NASCAR race are similar.
