Why does evolution have to exclude a creator? Every time this debate comes up, I wonder the same thing. That is, how does evolution contradict a creator, or any higher being for that matter? It seems that many people see progress in science as a replacement for religion, more specifically, Christianity.
Thanks David

i always wonder after a while if folks don't want to accept two thousand years of scientific progress when it comes to evolution why are they so eager to accept what science offers in the area of medicine?

I've always maintained, well, not always, but over the past 15 years or so, that consciousness is an emergent property, also called a supervenient property.
A rock is a collection of molecules, yet it has the property of hardness. The individual molecules aren't themselves hard, but the rock is hard. Hardness is a supervening, or emergent, property of the rock.
