A couple of years ago we went out on the "Graceful Ghost" a small steam powered paddle boat on Lake Caddo near Uncertian Texas.
I sat right next to the engine room and will never forget the soothing sound of the engine barely audible over the churning paddle wheel.

Most of last week we had a B-17 visiting our town. It would fly over several times a day ($500 45 min tours). That was pretty nice. It was at more of a "high idle" than really wound up, but still... it was a good sound.
