WTF? Come on...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18574603/?GT1=9951

Vegans kid died of malnourishment. Parents got sentenced to life in prison. Stupidity has a price, but man. I dunno, I don't like it.

Kid does NOT die of malnourishment in 1 hour. Sorry. The kid starved to death SLOWLY. Babies gain weight. Even a non-parent like myself knows that. If a person is too stupid to know that, they are mentally retarded. IF the baby was losing weight, they should have consulted a doctor. Actually, they should have consulted a doctor after the birth. There are lots of toll free numbers to call nurses who would probably refer you to a doctor. So, they killed this child as surely as they stuck a gun to his/her head. The only difference is they let the child die slowly. Yes, you can try all the new-fangled ideas you want. However, if the situation starts going south, you might want to ask someone else. That you didn't condemned the child to death. So, no pity for the adults.

The part of the sentencing I didn't totally agree with was all the intentional stuff. If t'was out of stupidity, then it wasn't exactly intentional. But, I probably agree with the life in prison part.

But their actions or inactions ARE intentional which is what they are focusing on. They felt what they were doing was right. OK. Fair enough. They were stupid. They INTENTIONALLY continued without seeking medical advice (action) or they did not want to see a doctor (inaction). Either way, result is a starved to death kid.

They are either really dumb, or just wanted to kill the kid in a way they thought they could get away with.

I don't believe they had any intent to harm the child.

Therefore, they are guilty of criminally negligent homocide.

There is definitely no basis for life in prison for such a crime.

People kill other people with automobiles because they are stupid and drive recklessly and they get 3 years........maximum.

This sentence is ridiculous.

Well, there is another issue involved. Because it is a child that died, people tend to punish more. Do I think it is fair? Nope.

Breast feeding is non-vegan?

Anybody remember the movie 7 ? Let them starve like the guy laying in bed with all the airfresheners dangling above him. Just a few minutes before they're about to expire, tell them "sorry...didn't think you were undernourished - ooops!" Then, give them the middle finger.

ok....fine....you can't do that.

Benefits of keeping them in jail:
1. They won't be able to reproduce and possibly kill another child.
2. They will raise the global I.Q. by a few points.
3. They won't be able to follow through with any other "bright ideas" of theirs.
4. They won't get shot at/beaten to death by the public (benefit is in their favor here)
5. -insert your opinion here-

Baby was 3.5 pounds when it died. Give me a freakin' break. Is smoking crack vegan?

I think drunk drivers should get 35 years for killing someone. I have no sympathy for these people. I'm a softie for kids, yeah.

Poetic Punishment!

Put them in a cell with Hannibal Lector!

"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."

"I do wish we could chat longer, but... I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye. "

Or any one of these real folks!

I think an accident is forgivable to a point. Thats why this is a weird one to me, because it goes to my other really big nag, stupid people ought not procreate. Now I can joke, yeah, world would be a better place but when its staring at you and a couple idiots really are going away for good, makes you think a little. On the logical side, in a civilized society, such a punishment for an accident is over the top. As a pissed off individual, I say Frikkin morons, lock them up. But in the end, when it used to was common goddam sense to feed your kid, maybe this shouldn't be forgiven. However, I genuinely believe that people are this retarded, so without knowing them I can't speak to whether its negligence or "clever" homicide.

But is this an accident? I mean, it wasn't as tho it was a bad decision that killed the baby. It was bad decisions day after day after day. They had ample opportunity to bring the child to a doctor. Their inaction killed the child.

That happened here in ATL....showed the couple on the news last night and there has to be more to the story (drugs? neglect?). They said they were feeding the child soy formula and apple juice. No way a child starves down to 3.5 pounds with regular feedings. The news showed the inside of their fridge and it had one can of formula and a baby bottle that looked like it got fished out of the toilet.

My 14-week old was 8 lbs, 4oz when born and he's into the 13# range now.
