America has just given up the fight.

Well. It seems the US congress in it's wisdom has just ****ed this country more completely than I would have ever belived capable. About 12 million new democrats in the next decade or so and a permanently confirmed welfare dependent underclass. Liberals should be dancing with joy.

None of this has passed a vote in either house. Furthermore it was a joint effort from Democrats and Republicans, and Bush (our favorite liberal) said he would sign it.

Oh sorry. I thought it only needed for Bush to sign it for it to be law. Maybe there's hope yet, though I'm doubtful.

A liberterian talk show host here in Baltimore identifies the dems as the " evil" party, and the repubs as the "stupid" party.

"Bipartisan" according to his definitions means that the legislation is BOTH stupid AND evil.

How can lawMAKERS subvert the law so easily? Controlling the borders is a Constitutional responsibility. Everyone who votes "for" or signs this piece of crap should be impeached.

Great, a bad idea the whole government can support! New Zealand is looking more and more attractive. I wonder what it costs to ship a 500SL AMG...

Great. Now the dishwashers are gonna demand more money.

All this costs money and we're gonna be the ones paying.

Imagine being in uniform. Sure stop the war, oh, btw, the 3500 buds of mine that gave up their souls for a vision of a democratic Iraq.... eff them too, ENSURE they died in vain.

I dont get it man. We go "to war" , we should pull the plugs out. I'd have ALL OF my specops folks mobilized running around the country whacking people.

" Ohh that's terrible " the people say. Naw honey, its the only damn way to win this thing. YOU SENT US TO WIN DIDNT YOU?!

If you're going to do it, you have to put your value set aside and run everything according to TASK, CONDITION, and STANDARD.

Seems like we learned nothing from Vietnam. The lilly white elitists still send boys off to die FOR NOTHING.

Yeah, happy effing Veteran's Day US Congess. The next time you want us to go and die, maybe we'll tell y'all to eff off.

Sorry, it INFLAMES me, the loss of lives, friends.

And Wolfowitz, one of the archetects of my buds deaths, is losing his high dollar job because he got his pussy a position. Oh the sorrow and horror of it all. He had to low crawl 200 yds with his guts in his hand to get back to our lines.

I am becoming a RADICAL libertarian in my middle age. Its a wicked confluence when you gain the knowledge to see the world more clearly, and become more rooted in a free sprit, humanist value set. The idiocy around you grows exponentially.

Havent been in the intel biz for near 20 yrs, and my exposure was "peripheral", and I sit in my office and wonder WTF were they thinking, who did the planning? ANd then you realize that its all "bureacratuc intertia, or whatever the political scientists call it these days, i.e, not a strategy based on the analysis of the best minds at Langley, of which there are many, but again, these lilly white elitist "scheming" in the back rooms with thier "hidden" minds.

There's a new buzzword in the investment biz, " open and transparent". It's a damn fine one. US Congress should adopt it. And not more CSpan ( if you notice, everything is subconsciously scripted in all those hearings), naw, the BIG picture. Transparency of decision making. Public blogs maybe.

Then maybe the country wouldnt have to spend millions upon millions in congresional hearings backtracking the desicion process.

How many times have we done that in the last ten years?

I think if you're a member of Congress, someone in your extended family MUST SERVE in the military.

That'll pucker their "lilly white arses"* enough to get it right.

(just my fancy way of saying elitst - take no offense if you're white!)

There never was a fight. The US had loosely guarded, penetrable borders for years. For all it matters, we might as well just remove the borders completely.

Peter, never underestimate the ability of Congress (and all politicians, actually) to flock us.

Oh I dont underestimate it at all. But it does surprise me that republicans would support it as giving the democraps another 12 mil voters over the next decade kills the republican party and effectively turns the US into another one party third world state. Rather like my homeland, or the cluster next door to it. (Zimbabwe).

From my experience, I think most Hispanics vote republican.

I'm probably wrong. Seems like more of my Hispanic friends are republican than not.

Your location might indicate an atypical Hispanic population. I'm aware of precious few here in Phoenix who vote repub. Of course that's only relevant amongst citizens. Most of those I know around here are illegals and none of them show any inclination to think outside the entitlement box.

What we have in this bill is a sudden legitimization of an undereducated, barely employable marginally useful underclass, beholden to goverment largess and welfare handouts. Such people do not vote republican.

You must have a lot of Cuban friends.

In California, New York and Texas the Hispanics there (mostly from Mexico and Puerto Rico) are overwhelmingly Dem.

Other Hispanics, however, do tend to vote Rep.

I guess it has a lot to do where you see yourself in the socio-economic ladder. If you see yourself near the bottom you vote Dem in exchange for their promises of more welfare, more bneefits and less responsibilities.

If you see yourself at or near the top of the ladder, you vote Rep because you believe in self-reliance, personal responsibility and a hands-off government.

Perfectly put Benz. The mostly Cuban-Hispanic population here in Fl is the same way. Those who have made good for themselves are Repub by nature and the ones who are "needy" go Democratic. I truly believe it holds true for all races though.

Simply a matter of self reliance or dependence. Damn bro, your a lawyer, you know what I'm talkin' about.

I can see how the GOP can claim to be the party of self-reliance. That's in the plus column for them.

The GOP's claim on the second one - personal responsibility - is iffy at best. Tort reform and the reforms that lead to ENRON are just two examples where the GOP has fought against holding people responsible for their actions.

But it's that last one where I really get off this bus. How the GOP can keep a straight face while claiming to advocate hands-off government is beyond me. Traditional Republicans, Goldwater comes to mind, could make that claim, but the more modern GOP wants the government getting into everything.
