You must have a lot of Cuban friends.

In California, New York and Texas the Hispanics there (mostly from Mexico and Puerto Rico) are overwhelmingly Dem.

Other Hispanics, however, do tend to vote Rep.

I guess it has a lot to do where you see yourself in the socio-economic ladder. If you see yourself near the bottom you vote Dem in exchange for their promises of more welfare, more bneefits and less responsibilities.

If you see yourself at or near the top of the ladder, you vote Rep because you believe in self-reliance, personal responsibility and a hands-off government.

Perfectly put Benz. The mostly Cuban-Hispanic population here in Fl is the same way. Those who have made good for themselves are Repub by nature and the ones who are "needy" go Democratic. I truly believe it holds true for all races though.

Simply a matter of self reliance or dependence. Damn bro, your a lawyer, you know what I'm talkin' about.

I can see how the GOP can claim to be the party of self-reliance. That's in the plus column for them.

The GOP's claim on the second one - personal responsibility - is iffy at best. Tort reform and the reforms that lead to ENRON are just two examples where the GOP has fought against holding people responsible for their actions.

But it's that last one where I really get off this bus. How the GOP can keep a straight face while claiming to advocate hands-off government is beyond me. Traditional Republicans, Goldwater comes to mind, could make that claim, but the more modern GOP wants the government getting into everything.

Better to have our grandchildren being sent to relieve our children who are fighting and dying to quell a civil war in Iraq because the US "screwed the pooch" in the early part of the 21st Century?

Yeah, they're so hands-off that when a real live traditional conservative enters the presidential race, they do all they can to smear and silence him: http://www.theconservativevoice.com/article/25180.html. I'm not sure how the GOP can fall any further from grace...

I really hate to see the political calculations being made as to which way the illegals will vote--which party will benefit.
Until our "representative" have a higher regard for citizens than illegals this will continue. IMO, illegals have no rights, no standing in our judicial or law-making system.
If they came in legally, then they are entitles to work and act responsibly, but if their initial act to get into the country was illegal, how can they expect to suddenly become legal?

Ron Paul appears to be his own man. I like that in a candidate, and judging from posts made, so do a number of others. That the established GOP is attempting to thwart his candidacy makes him even more interesting.

The man is a living example of what the Republican Party used to be all about, and still try to ride their reputation on. Now the big government, big spending, socialist evangelicals who have hijacked the party consider him a greater threat than any Democrat. So great in fact, that they're willing to sacrifice our right of free speech. How sad is that?

You can be done with Texas, but Texas is never done with you. Long live the Lone Star State!

we make legals out of the illegals, now they become American citizens.
these are the ones that were doing the jobs that americans won`t do.
who`s going to do the jobs these people were doing??? OH yeah, just
bring in 12 million more.. I can`t get on an airplane with out a strip
search. I might have some contraband in my luggage.
these wetbacks wade through the creek with all kinds of contraband,
nobody checks. then we reward them by making U.S. citizens.
