Well, back to the Ouija. I've had one sice I was in highschool. Haven't had a reason or desire to get it out since Thanksgiving of 2005. It takes a fun, open minded and preferably mixed crew to make good use of it. Its fun and provocative, whether its real or not. I happen to think that its not real, at least not in the sense that there is some communion with the dead taking place. However, I can say that when you're really into it it really does feel like the thing moves by itself. Its kind of freaky, hence the fun part.

Look it up for yourself then. Google works well. The gesture DOES mean "I love you" in American sign language, and it has been so for a LONG time.

Just because a couple of random nutjobs use a similar gesture to signal some other meaning doesn't inherently prove that some "satan" character had anything to do with it, nor does it imply that it means anything of the sort to countless other people who may use the gesture.

In reality, most people (other than the hearing-impaired) who use the gesture have NO IDEA what it means, and don't really care. It's just something to do with your hands at a rock concert (if there's not already a beer in it). It is meaningless, harmless, and now that I think about it, I can't believe I'm actually wasting time and bandwidth even discussing something so silly.

I never assumed you were a "fool", and certainly never said so...

But when it comes to your obvious belief in these ridiculous, archaic religious superstitions, you are certainly demonstrating the tendency.

There is nothing to sober up from.

I do what I do professionally, and conduct myself as such, and have not been anything other than sober for many, many years.

I show up, I soundcheck, I perform, I shake the hands and sign the CDs/posters/whatever, I MIGHT have a beer, I pack up, and I go back to my bus or hotel, which is exactly where I am now. Quite sober, thank you.

I have been in the music business professionally for over 20 years. Been playing for even longer.

I've worked with and/or met so many musicians, writers, producers, promoters, etc., both very famous and not so famous, and I have played on and/or worked on so many albums and tours, I've lost count.

I have traveled this country, much of this hemisphere, and a good portion of the rest of the world.

I run my own recording studio business.

To say that my experience in the music business is quite extensive is a huge understatement.

Do I say this now to blow my own horn? No.

I say it to demonstrate that I KNOW what I'm talking about when it comes to music and musicians.


During all this extensive time and experience:

How many times have I encountered any actual "devil-worshipping" musicians?...

Zero.

How many times have I recorded, or witnessed someone else record evil, hidden satanic messages onto an album?...

Zero.

How many musicians have ever said to me, "I hold my hand up like this because it's the sign of the devil"?....

Zero.


Your fear of this stuff is ridiculous, irrational, and unfounded.

The VERY few musicians that you can find who actually incorporate such supposedly "evil" imagery and props in their performance do so, almost without exception, for ONE reason and ONE reason only:

To ruffle the feathers of folks like YOU.

Why?....

Because the people who get their panties in such a wad over these silly things provide more promotion and publicity to these performers than they could EVER achieve on their own!

And you are too blinded by your irrational fear of this "evil" to even see it.

That small minority of performers who use such shock-value tactics are WELL aware of what they are doing, and it has nothing to do with "the devil"....

It is MARKETING.

They are pushing your buttons, and you jump.

They present something that they know will trigger your religion-inspired paranoia, and you respond by generating free publicity for them.

You're waving the bible talking about the devil, and they're laughing all the way to the bank.

However, the overwhelming majority of musicians can't even be bothered with such silliness.

We just love to make music.

And when fans hold their hands in the air like that, they're not saying "we worship satan". If anything, they are saying, "we love your music".

In other words: Relax.

The devil isn't coming out of the stereo speakers to get you.
