Things that end friendships

Kid I know, 19 years old. Nice kid, been lifeguarding since he was 16. Goes out partying one night, hits a parked car. Blows 0.21. Nobody got hurt.

Parents want to sue the bar.

Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

The family of the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher who killed himself in a DUI-related wreck want to sue the bar that offered him a cab as he was walking out the door, he declined, said he was walking to a nearby hotel...again, who is the bad guy here?

$20 hooker, scary...I drove through East St. Louis the other day and the "ladies" working the corners were all just nasty, look like meth heads, all scrawny and dirty. Yuck! Not like that movie Pretty Woman by any stretch of the imagination.

Once in Seattle, driving cab, got a call just at bar break -- few minutes before 2 am -- the bartender had called a cab for a drunk and belligerent dude. The guy's virtually ignoring me, walks out of the bar, I'm telling him that I'm the cabbie sent for him. He just gives me a dirty look. Walks to his car and fumbles for keys. Guy is too drunk to drive, at least on any sane register.

I tell him, OK, you owe me $2 dismissal fee (this was early 80s, late 70s maybe). The guy says FU. I repeat my demand a few times, same response.

Something rubbed me the wrong way about this. I positioned myself so that nothing was behind him, in a straight line between me and him (didn't want to hurt him too bad) and shoved the hell out of him while hooking one of his feet with mine.

As my old man would have said, he went flying a$$ over teakettle. A bit violent on my part but what else could I do? I didn't have the legal right to stop him from driving. Maybe I should have taken his keys. Oh well, dude had a few bruises to think about, anyway.

As Botnst said: Betrayal
Especially the kind that is the result of a cold hearted conspiracy.

Are the parents seriously suing the bar for their son's bad judgement?

I have no idea. I think it might be their anger. Give them a few weeks and maybe they'll figure it out. It just sends a lousy message ya know?
