Been there, done that. Let a "friend" buy a car from me on the easy-sleezy payment plan. Ended up having to call him EVERY month for a payment. "Oh, yeah. I'll bring it over soon as I can."
After he finally got it paid off, we never saw, or spoke to, each other again.
Never do that again.

Once in Seattle, driving cab, got a call just at bar break -- few minutes before 2 am -- the bartender had called a cab for a drunk and belligerent dude. The guy's virtually ignoring me, walks out of the bar, I'm telling him that I'm the cabbie sent for him. He just gives me a dirty look. Walks to his car and fumbles for keys. Guy is too drunk to drive, at least on any sane register.

I tell him, OK, you owe me $2 dismissal fee (this was early 80s, late 70s maybe). The guy says FU. I repeat my demand a few times, same response.

Something rubbed me the wrong way about this. I positioned myself so that nothing was behind him, in a straight line between me and him (didn't want to hurt him too bad) and shoved the hell out of him while hooking one of his feet with mine.

As my old man would have said, he went flying a$$ over teakettle. A bit violent on my part but what else could I do? I didn't have the legal right to stop him from driving. Maybe I should have taken his keys. Oh well, dude had a few bruises to think about, anyway.

I get screwed everytime I loan money to women. Seems they manage to forget about the loan.........or have better places for the money after they finally have some.........

I think you must consider it a gift..........

I ONLY do this kind of thing for my own family anymore. And then only when I figure I can afford to never see it again.

All big friendship-enders in my book.

I won't loan money to friends, it will just get messy. If they really need it and I can spare it I would give it to them as a gift, but not expect to get paid back.

Dishonesty, and trust I would say end most friendships.

Sometimes a money "loan" is a good way to get rid of someone.

I had a good friend in OlyWA about 20 years ago -- well, we weren't real close but we'd hang out now and then. He took up with a total babe who had a job with the state lottery. I could have sworn she was sorta giving me the eye when I first met her, before they were married. After they were married, I went to visit once at their house and the lady was flirting with me big time, not even trying to hide it.

It pissed me off cause she was very tempting but didn't seem too stable and I liked the guy too much to ever act on it. That was the last time I visited their house though. Too nerve racking.

I happened to talk to a high school bud years later who'd worked for the lottery for years. I asked him about her, told him the name of the guy she married and he said "oh yeah -- total hot pants. One affair after another." They finally divorced.

1. Insulting one's professional ability publicly and not having a clue about what they said.
2. Loaning money
3. Dishonesty

Oh no, that's a big one...tools are very expensive. It's bad when you loan them and have to go over and retrieve them!
