Tapped for a research project . . .
Out of the blue I get a call from a marketing consultant firm, Nolan Research, from Montgomery, Alabama. They are to be in NO several times in June, and after asking me a few qualifying questions, they invited me to participate in a discussion group later this month. It's a 9 to 5 thing, and I'll have to take a vacation day (which I'm due for anyway), but (they say) it pays $175 in cash, and they provide breakfast and lunch. The venue is downtown; I can probably ride an express bus and save gas and annoyance with traffic.
The company has a website, with their services listed here: http://www.nolanresearch.com/services.html No idea what the discussion will be about, except that the qualifying questions seemed designed to find out if I had any connections to the legal field. I'll admit the idea of sitting in one room for nearly 7 hours doesn't thrill me, but the money sounds good. Any of you ever do something like this? Does the payment sound too high, too good to be true?

could be mock trial. I was on two different mock trial juries about 10 years ago. One was about the Dow breast implant deal, and another about some wrongful death case in Arizona where some workers were exposed to allegedly cancer-causing chemicals. All in all both were very interesting experiences.

My wife and some of her friends are enrolled with a marketing group that calls from time to time to participate in specific surveys...somewhat like you described.
Food is provided, and yes, the payment for services are real. In fact, the ones my wife participates in, the payout ranges between $300-$400 per survey!

Just don't do anything to get tossed out. Some people are professional focus group participants. My wife is involved in some of these things but she's not part of the marketing group. Last year though she recognized someone participating under two different names!
The money is pretty good, especially if you get paid to sit around and be opinionated!

I did that a few years back with a marketing research group for t.v. sitcoms, pretty fun and the food was good.

My first wife used to do stuff like that. It was great work when she could get it.
It beats the hell out of sitting for hours listening to a time share sales pitch to get a free weekend at some resort! No, . . . . uh, actually, I've never DONE that, but I've heard stories . . . . . .
