Compact florescent lamps don't work with dimmers either, which I believe is stated on the package.
Most garage door operators also use electronic controls for the bulbs, which means that you can't use them there. Either wire in a separate mechanical timer or stick with incandescent lamps.
Most don't work with dimmers but you can buy compact florescent bulbs that work with dimmers. They don't work as well as an incandescent but they do work.
