!@@!#$ i knew better!

ive got a good friend that has been struggling with the company he is with. we had an opening at work so i told him about it and he was very interested. so its been 2 weeks tomorrow since they said you are hired and he backs out today. they have already paid for hid uniforms, piss test, and a couple other little things! all because they arnt paying good enough. HE WAITED 2 WEEKS! so now they arnt too happy with me,and we are gonna be short handed again i knew better! yet i thought i could help him and not have it backfire on me.

I have learned that friends and jobs and money are best left alone.

Sometimes it really does seem like no good deed goes unpunished, Kmaysob. Sorry to hear that.

Don't feel bad, you tried to do something good for both parties. It's not your fault he backed out.

At least you gave him the opportunity for the job, that is how I got my existing job so I have to be thankful for people like you.

I got bit that way once, too. Ever since that experience, I just put whoever I know(friend, relative, whatever) in touch with whoever hires and let them hash it out. I try not to endorse one way or the other.

Wanting to change jobs is common, changing jobs is not.

Change is stressful, and a lot of people begin to have second thoughts right before.

His thoughts got the better of him. It happens.

I ONLY go into business with friends and family, and can't imagine any other way of doing business.

Only problem then is what to do if things don't work out. Are you going to have to deal with the ill will?

I used to offer things I had for sale to family. Quite often they would push for the "family" discount. When things break I get roped into fixing them. Now, if I sell a car to a stranger, it is their's when the check clears. At that point, I feel under no obligation to do anything. I present the item as it is and don't hold anything back. Even if it breaks down the street, it is their problem. With family, I can't do that and somehow there are ill feelings.

That sux. I know you can't help but feel bad/responsible, but it really was out of your hands and shouldn't.

Business and friends, money and family/friends can be a bad combination. I'd say family and business are a bad mix but we've been at it for 5 generations now. But I suppose that's one of the exceptions to the rule.
