At least he was wearing a parachute. I think he'd still be considered a contender for a Darwin award.

Say what you want.
But I like the way the guy thinks.

"When you're laying in the grass on a summer day, and you see the clouds, you wish you could jump on them."

"It was beautiful -- beautiful,"
Damn right it was. Awesome flight. Hats off to the guy.

Interesting landing point at Union right smack in Ladd Canyon where the wind blows all the time.

To close:

The ultimate responsibility of the pilot is to fulfill the dreams of the countless millions of earthbound ancestors who could only stare skyward and wish.

Clearing turns !?!?! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
I guess with that glass cockpit, it’s important to not get all gaa-gaa over it and learn to keep your head outside the airplane.

We’re glad to hear that you’re actually going to perform (at least two full turns) the spins, and not just talk about them. As they are not a required procedure for primary/private pilot certification, most CFIs have quit teaching them (spin recovery).

We feel they should be mandatory, but many of the aircraft that are used for primary flight training these days aren’t even certified for them. If you’d like to loose some weight, quick - go up and stall/spin a Piper Tomahawk. That will scare the pounds out of you for sure. Nothing like the sound of an “oil-canning” vertical stab. And God forbid you turn and look back there at it. That will take a few years from ya.

As for your 172S, no worries. It will spin nicely all day long (unless you hit the ground ).
Power back - yoke back - rudder --- Scream: “yeee-haaa!!“--- other rudder - yoke neutral - rudder neutral - yoke back - power in - altitude - repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Once you have it down. Pick a heading, and try to pull out on that heading. For every 5 degrees off that heading you are when you pull out, you give the CFI a dollar. He’ll like that deal !! And, it will make you an even better pilot (not quite an “aviator” - but close).

Let us know how it goes. Be safe.

^^^^^ I'd spew last weeks groceries.

I don't think the words "airplane" and "spin" should ever appear together.

"Spin?" Isn't that what politicians do? What does that have to do with flying?
