Gee in the ATL theres plenty of places that 75 will get you runned over...

I love taking my 35 year old car and pulling around some lane hoggin plastic POS and letting that needle swing over to 95 : )

No one ever expects my staid old lady to haul like that.

My beloved husband, tends to look over from the passenger seat and make comments like "do you know how fast you are going?"

Best trip I ever did in Brunhilda's predessor, Henrietta, was Boston to Long Island. Sections of I-95 we did about 110. Felt like 75.

Ann

I have had my 1985 300D up to about 85, but it seems happiest right round 75-77 mph. I love the sound of the 617 motor at that speed. The car has a nice, relaxed feel at highway speed, which is really where Mercedes cars shine. IMHO.

90 mph on the highway on all the vehicles...for various reasons.

I gotta slow down....NOW!!

Got stopped twice in the last couple of months for driving 40-ish on 30mph roads.

Both times, the cop was going down the opposite lane, spotted me, and would u-turn and go after me...the second incident was yesterday afternoon.

I knew I was busted, so I just pulled over to a side street and had my hand out of the window with my license and insurance papers in my hand.

As he inquired I told him, "I saw you, saw my speed, knew I was speeding, and just decided to pull over because I knew you got me."

I guess he liked my refreshing honesty and let me go with a warning...as did the patrol officer who stopped me a month earlier. I must be living right!

Hatti, Watch out for the three, unmarked, silver Ford Eseuvees that have been running around our area. I see them everywhere and at all hours, on 91, and 95. They just got them, and they're out to pay for them. State cops..

I haven't been caught, because every time I drive past one, they always seem to be busy already. Guess I keep getting lucky or something..

You did not even approach 150 mph on the Meritt Parkway. The reason I know this is that you'd not be alive if you tried.

Any other "inflated stories" in your agenda?

$#!T, I think you need to come for a ride in my AMG, before you say anything like that. The car is more than capable of higher speeds than that, and you damn well know it. Late at night or early morning, there are not as many people on the roads. I think you need to learn a thing or two about the older 126 AMG cars, and how they handle, speed, and such. That big Euro 6.0 litre, and high rear end gear ratio, allows the car to move extremely fast. The AMG suspension allows the car to perform like it was travelling at a much slower speed, and you can just kinda cruise at even the highest speeds. I Guess you've never had the pleasure of riding in one though. I'll take a speedo pic and post it for you asap, and you'll see for yourself. It will far exceed the 240kmh mark, whatever U.S. speed that calculates to, I don't really know, but it doesn't matter anymore once you are moving like that anyways..

You might achieve such a speed on I-91, but, as I previously mentioned, NFW you do it on the Merritt..........in the dark..........and live to tell about it.

100 mph would be critical speed on the Merritt.........one false move at that speed and you're toast.

It's a relatively slow highway road with 55 mph limit and typical 45 mph curves and both mild upgrades and downgrades. You certainly can take the road at 80 mph if you're careful.........plenty of a/h do exactly that.

But........150 mph?? NFW.

Yeah......maybe.

But, even such a vehicle couldn't handle the curves on that road at 150 mph.

That's a speed where you don't even attempt to keep it between the lines on such a road.

Yes, it does get a bit more scary on the parkway, due to little if any lighting, two lanes, and cars. It is however, a whole lot more managable than I originally thought it would be. The car has a bit more bounce to it, but holds the road surprisingly well. I find it easiest up in the area between the Sikorsky bridge, and the east rock tunnel. Once I make my way pretty close tothe hill before the tunnel I have to slow down a lot, because it's just a bit too bouncy, and a lot more traffic also. It is nice and flat, and the turns are very shallow between the Sikorsky, and the tunnel though. I was very surprised at how well the car handles, when I first got into it. I had no idea it would be the way it is either, and would not have believed it if someone told me, until I had first hand experience at it. It started out one night when I was up there with a friend, and doing a little demo of what the car could do. I didn't say anything to him, but it kinda scared me a few times the first time. I realize I'm dead, and car is total loss if something gets screwed up. I guess I take that chance though. What difference would it make to me if the car got totaled, if I died anyways..? Just part of the whole thing about taking the risk. I-91, Is the absolute best I've found though. Between NewHaven, and Hartford, there are a lot of good areas when it's late enough at night. You'd be surprised at how well the car handles though. They drive them on those little cow paths in Europe, at high speeds, so Why would you think we can't do it here? The parkway is ten times better than a lot of their roads, and the area is also freshly repaved. I was doing about a 125 one night a long time ago, between the tunnel, and rt.34(ext57/58) and an Audi passed me like I was standing still. I will always remember that sunday afternoon, on the way up to the weekly Cruise night at Heavenly Donut, in Derby with my 70 Nova last summer.

If you still do not believe me it's ok, It's your loss. I'll post speedo pics soon, if you want, but it will be hard to get a sign, and speedo, into the same pic, while still driving. It takes a lot of concentration, and hold the wheel very firmly, but loose enough to still have control. I'll give it my best shot though. I don't know how the pic will come out..How about I pick you up Hatti, and you can varify for everyone else that it is in fact the real deal..?

No, the lines, and such become irrelevent. I use the whole road for a few of the turns, but many are gradual enough that you can sorta kinda keep a lane, or just straddle, and run up the middle. What's the difference, if they also charge me with misuse of lanes, at speeds like that? I wouldn't be driving anymore for a while anyways, if I got caught.

Most of them know me on sight, or by name. They both know, and don't care if I'm registered, on my bike, or car, and could care less. They still say hello, talk, and hang out. They don't give a damn about whether my car is legit or not. I drive around Hamden and NewHaven w/o a plate at all, and they don't look at me twice. The only real threat to me is out of state, or out of town cops. I went to school with half of Hamden's, and NewHaven's also. If I have a problem I can generally get it taken care of with a phone call and maybe sometimes, a case of beer, around our area there Hat. I'd still bet they couldn't tell a 300CD from a 560 SEC, no matter what year either one of them is. They both look dated, yet modern enough, to be passed off as either year if you swap out badges, and plates. Color, and make, and maybe body style, are all they really ever bother to match together. If it says silver Mercedes 300CD coupe, on the registration, and the car is badged as a 300CD. I doubt very much they'd come up and check out the vin# in the windshield, which will also be "Duplicated" from the other car's, along withthe door Jamb tag. As for the 300CD's and swapping plates from one to the other, I don't even bother with the Vin tags.
