Holy cow, there can't be that much of a weight difference on a Grand Cherokee...it's not a lot bigger in outside dimensions. I could see a couple hundred pounds, now I'll have to look it up...

After I sold my last Cherokee I looked at other 4x4s for a replacement. None of them get good mileage. I was surprised that something like a Suzuki SUV got lousy mileage but they all suck gas.

All 4x4 cars get crappy milage.
Even 4 cylinder Subarus get lousy mileage. It has to do with driving all four wheels all the time plus the extra weight of the 4x4 drive train. However, I loved my old Subbie even if I got an average of 18 mpg with it! Now that I have the 'burban I miss it a lot. It just got to be too small

We drove Legacy wagons last time we lived in Maine. I thought we averaged better than 20mpg. I know that on road trips between the Gulf Coast and New England we got in the high 20's, like 28-29mpg. They were a '94 and a '96 wagon. Both had 2.2 engines. We pulled a snowmobile trailer behind them sometimes and mileage suffered while towing. In New England I like the Subaru wagon. Now we are out west and I like the Cherokee better so I can go out on mining roads, etc. I tend to buy and sell vehicles to suit my wants and just for fun.
