The most important part of that "oops" by NASA is now 5 of the 10 warmest years occurred before WWII, and 1934 was the hottest, not 1998. The global warming idiots swing that around as "proof" of their concept and their concept just fell apart (again).

The Canadian scientist who discovered the data error is the same guy who shot down the "hockey stick". The guy who created the hockey stick graph (which shows a recent upturn in temperature) generated the graph by computer model, which he would not release. The other scientist figured it out though and ran validation tests on the model. Basically what he found was that no matter what temperature data you input, you got a hockey stick out...turns out the original model had some really sloppy math in it.

That wont be the last time, either.

NASA gets it's temp data radiometrically, not through more typical direct measurements. It's a relatively new technology they use and so, the knowledge of how to derive the temps is not as stable. Each successive correction will probably be by a decreasing amount, making all of the data more reliable.

How do these corrections affect global models? Models are developed and verified using real data. As real data increase in accuracy and density over the globe and through time, hopefully it will improve the the models reliability and predictability.
