Oi! I had a mildly kitted-out Vespa in college and it was a hit with the ladies. I would like to find another one (or a Lambretta) and give it the full-on mod treatment.

I was going to say there is no way to misconstrue that until I though it might depend on what he's named his twig and berries.

8 minutes and counting. No beer yet, just giddy at the thought of escaping in mere minutes.

Boardmonger,
I used to have a blue Yamaha Chappy, (like the red one in your picture). Top speed wasn't the greatest (maybe 20 or 23mph?), but it sure could pull! I think I got mine in '79, used it for a paper route for a while (the long seat held the bag pretty well).
If I were to get one now, it would have to have a higher top speed - maybe 35ish.

Riding a moped is like having sex with a fat chick, just don't let your buddies find out....

Funny you mention that, we attmepted to ride up Page Mill a few weeks ago, but one friend killed a few plugs, then another was low on gas so we never made it out to skyline. We have been planning a trip to Big Basin or Portola Redwoods but we haven't done it yet.

Moped Army is a great resource. Some attitude there, but tons of knowledge.

As far as people making fun of the mopeders, I haven't really seen it. Again, some groups of late-teen to early 20ers have laughed, but when it is a full group, of both boys and girls, they are pretty interested and many ask where they could get one themself. It may just be courtesy, but I haven't encountered much attitude, and have met a decent number of people who are or have been involved with these things.

POS, that is a very cool bike. Is it a 2 stroke 4 speed? Yamaha also made a 72cc chappy 4 speed.

Mine can do about 28 on flats, 35-45 down hills and 22 up them. Dropping into the low gear ratio allows me to go up anything. Im going to kit it out for a little more speed.

I've got an early 90's 49cc Yamaha Jog that is an absolute blast to ride around the community on and actually use it to run to the grocery store and run errands with. I take the HD Road King if I'm trying to impress anybody.

Back in high school, the one to have was a Garelli. With the right mods, they would do over 45 MPH. Now days, around here mopeds are referred to as "liquor-cycles". It's the only thing you're allowed to ride on the road if you get convicted of DWI.

Still, I wouldn't mind having one for putzing around.

But can you get a DWI on a moped?
