IPOD Interface

Has anyone used these? How are they. I have a 1998 E430 and would love to just hook up an IPOD direct to the factory stereo. Let me know how there are. Thanks.

Hey 260Ex2,

Funny you should mention this. I have a 1998 E430 and I have purchased this product. Yes, it works and the sound is excellent. Disc 1 allows you to control the songs via your iPod. Discs 2-6 are your playlists and you control everything through the factory deck. Also charges the iPod.

Yep, it would also work with your E320, if it has the Becker 1692 radio (which it should).

Zues, Did you just hook it into the changer plug in the back of the radio? Is this for all models in 1998? I am not sure if there are different radios that came with the cars. I have the Bose system. I am not sure if that would make a difference or if that is the standard stereo. Thanks.

Yes, mine is a Bose too, is that just the speakers? Is the head unit actually Becker? Also, I saw it mentioned something about possibly plugging it into the trunk?

The Bose package is the speakers and the amps. Mine is Bose as well. The headunits on all our cars is the Becker 1692. Looks like this -

The GROM adaptor plugs into the back of the radio harness (not the trunk), into the CD changer input, labelled 'C' in this diagram -

The GROM adaptor basically replaces the CD changer, and your iPod becomes the new changer. If your car has the CD changer, you can just leave the plug in the cavity behind the radio, should you ever want to use it. The CD changer itself is located in the trunk and is made by Alpine.

Excellent explanation. But I don't know if I'm ready to give up the changer for the iPod exclusively. There's something about the "permanent" nature of the changer which is very nice and convenient. No plugging in cables, playing with settings, etc. At present I use my iPod with a cassette adapter, and quite honestly it sounds fine to me. I think I'll stick with that until the changer breaks...

So what do you think this means?

Quote:
Just plug the adapter into the back of your stereo (or in the trunk), connect it to your iPod and enjoy crystal clear sound and full control!

I think the plug for the changer in the trunk can be used to connect the interface and the "full control" is referring to the control from the stock changer control to control the iPod.
