Or a word which can mean the opposite of itself. For example, custom means special, or it could mean normal.

"This whip is custom made" or "it's the custom here to whip people."

How about scan? It's impossible to tell from this sentence "he scanned the situation with his good eye" whether or not the person looked in detail or just gave it the once over.
