Thinking of switching to ATT wireless

Anybody have any comments on their cell phone coverage with ATT wireless?

I've had Verizon for about 10 years, and have basically been happy with it, but I recently spent some time playing with my brother's iPhone, and loved it, but it would require me to switch to ATT.

Another thing to consider for me is that I travel all over the U.S., so national coverage would be important.

Thanks.....I'm actually more worried about ATT's coverage area.

I've heard some comments from people who've switched from Verizon to ATT Wireless who noticed a difference in coverage, but since their comments are anecdotal, I'm not sure if this is actually the case, i.e. that ATT's coverage is worse than Verizon's.

I think they are about the same. Our company has herds of people running all around the country on AT&T. I run into an occasional dead spot, but it's usually out in the middle of nowhere.

I have the Iphone and really like it. It doesn't work at my home in Sterling, VA which is around 7 Miles from Dulles Airport. It's worked fine everywhere else though.

I've had Cellular1>Cingular>ATT since 1993. In my area, this service is superior to Verizon, which my wife has always had. She frequently borrows my phone when we travel 'cuz she can't place calls due to lack of signal.

The network that I use is extremely quiet. People often ask if I am sitting in my living room on a land line.

My concern is that the Verizon vs. ATT quality varies around the country. suginami, I think you'd be best served to ask people in your local area what they think of Company A vs. Company B. I've heard plenty of people say that Verizon is superior to the other carrier in their local area.

Use the trial period to make sure you have good coverage, personally I prefer Verizon but the signal at my home stinks so I am forced to use Tmobile.

Paul, I would not be worried about the swith to ATT.

I recently had a really good friend switch from Verizon Wireless to ATT, and he said he is never going back. He has the iPhone, and says that the call clairty is leaps and bounds ahead of his Verizon service and his Q. He also said that the Customer Service is about 1000x better than Verizon.

I also recently made the switch.... I was with Verizon (on a Razr), then to Sprint (garbage service, avoid sprint like the plague), and then to ATT with the iPhone. Its incredible. The call clarity on ATT is superior compared to Verizon and Sprint!

So in other words, I reccomend it! No complaints here! Also I have had fewer dropped calls then I did with Verizon, and the service seems like it has no boundaries.

If you are really concerned, go to an ATT store, and get a phone/plan and try it out for a week. If you do not like it, you can cancel it.

its alright.. I had to buy an expensive phone so I wouldn't lose signal.. cheap phones suck...

roll over minutes are great. my plan has 1,000 minutes for only 70$ a month.. we got it years ago and just keep signing.. I don't really use that many.. but they do come in useful

I get a signal where others don't in my area in N. Utah, kinda rural here. Been happy for over 2 years now with Cingular/AT&T.

Paul, I've had SNET/Cingular/ATT for as long as I've had a cell phone. Coverage through the northeast has been great and they're adding cell towers all the time. I travel a little bit to different parts of the country and have never had a problem with a signal, although it's usually to metropolitan areas. Although some of the fields in the Willamette Valley in Oregon are pretty remote and I've always had strong signal stength there.

Coverage map

Paul,

I have used Cingular/ATT for over 10 years. Works well in my area. No complaints.
Here's a link to the ATT coverage map.
