Pray for me, I have to go to El Reno in two weeks. Now there's a place that's the epicenter of panache and style.

In defense of the Belvedere buriers, it was the 50's and hare-brained ideas abounded. Also, they weren't stupid, just ignorant. They actually had gasoline and oil buried with the car because they didn't know if any would be available in 2007! And watch with the Oklahoma-bashing! We may lack highbrow culture and glitzy style in most areas but I'll stack it up against anywhere else for down-home kindness and truly good people. I would helluva lot rather have car trouble in OK than many other places. Also, if you don't like the weather here, don't worry, it'll change in a couple of hours.
Agreed on El Reno being a drag. I pass through there all the time. There is a good burger joint (Robert's Grill) if you have the time. Open for business since 1926 I believe.

Amen. Okies are good people. And I should know, I'm married to one.

Thanks for the tip...I'm always on the lookout for a unique burger joint. FWIW, when we used to make regular trips to OKC, I always liked going to Charcoal Oven for burgers..

Here's some great fun in Muskogee, if anyone's into this sort of thing. I know I am, and I had a great time at the place. I went on the tour, and checked out the Museum. I'm Fanatical about this sort of thing though, and I kinda get off on it...

That's why Texans and Okies don't get along. We're too much alike. And don't worry about the OK/TX rivalry. I'm an O-State grad so the UT fans don't fear us much (during football season anyway).
What takes you to El Reno? Robert's Grill is right in the middle of town, just on the South edge of downtown and North of the schools. Highway 81 runs North-South through town and there is a place where it makes a 2 block East-West jog. Robert's is on the jog.
BTW, where in OK is your wife from?

Bride is from the City (OSU grad too). But when her mom and dad split-up in the 60's she was transplanted to Indiana until she returned in her teens. Her dad passed on a couple of years ago and leading up to that, we were up there on average 2X month...the 300TD had practially worn a path on 281/81 through Mineral Wells, Duncan and Waurika.

We're going to El Reno for a mini-family reunion. M-I-L is heading down from Indiana to visit her cousin (a retired large animal vet) in El Reno so it's a way to face time with MOM without having her here at home....and, it will be a good time to yakk with Doc about bull selection too.

I'm just kidding, cj, I'm from the Insurance Capital of the U.S. Whoopty-freakin'-dooo! And northeasterners are generally the @$$holes we're made out to be. I'm in no position to really criticize anyone's state

Wow,
I mean, I have traveled everywhere in the country, plus Canada, Mexico, and a whole load of other countries. I've been everywhere in Texas tons of times. Seriously though Texas is one of my LEAST favorite places, for a million, and one reasons. Number one, has to be the cockeyness of it's residents, and the B.S. bumper stickers, and signs everywhere that say, "Don't mess with Texas" as if they were god's friggin' gift or something. Every single run down shack out there has that GOD-DAMNED worthless star on the front of it too. I mean, C'mon people I can understand taking pride in where you live but DAMN!! Texans act as if you're dirt if you're from ANYWHERE else other than Texas. Texans need to explore the rest of civilization, before calling their dirt bomb state "The Best" because there are a lot nicer places.
I've met a whole lot of country folk out there in Texas who've never even been outside of their County, who talk all proud and cockey about Texas and say it's the "Best" when they don't even have anything to compare it too. Just 'cause "Daddy been outa state once 20 years ago, and he says Texas is damn sure the best he ever been to" Maybe you all should get out a little bit more often and explore, and decide for yourselves. Texas can't even come close to a good majority of what's out there in the country, let alone the world. 'Yall better check yourselves before saying Texas is best for anything aside from "Steers and Queers", because that's about all they have to offer, and that's what they have the most of.

Nough said

Texas did seem to be full of it self when I was there..

I didn't see anything big in Texas... other than the big lie about it.

Actually, I think that the 50's-era Chryslers (and most other cars from that period) were quite nice looking cars, if a bit overweight and underpowered for the most part.

When it comes to classic cars, I always favor big-swoopy body lines, and excessive chrome. Guess I'm just very "American" when it comes to that. If "some" is good, then "more" is better!

Same here. There's something about a full finned road orca with 7 feet of grill in between the headlights.

Whenever my dad hears me call it "chrome", in regards to pre-sixties cars, he trips offline and says "It's called nickel!".
