Tesla Roadster Kaput
Being Based on the Elise May Be the Problem
Tesla announced that it will not be selling the roadster after 2011, instead focusing on their planned all electric vehicle, the Model S sedan. The Roadster is built by Lotus, so presumably Tesla is talking about changes at the British automaker's factory in Hethel, England, but we can't confirm that because Tesla spokesman Ricardo Reyes declined to comment. |

The company also announced it's getting ready to go IPO; if that's the case, then they need to start building cars that can be more mass-produced than be a specialized roadster. A Model S sedan sounds about right; wonder what it'll look/drive like.

Model S is also more moderately priced. They already have the design, just google it.
I'm waiting for MB to come out with an electric car.

The roadster has served it's purpose. They are about to go public, they need a mass market product.

Just saying ![]() Didn't Mercedes enter into some sort of agreement with Tesla motors a few months back to access their battery tech or was that another company?

Daimler did participate in funding Tesla, however they also covered their bets with deals with other battery makers, I believe Matsu****a/Panasonic.

That electric car looks cool.
For a second vehical they make a lot of sense. I'd buy one to run errands so I wouldn't have to drive the truck all the time. However you would still need a gas car for trips.

![]() But you're right, you'd need an easily, quickly re-fuelable car for long trips, although we rarely go on trips that take us farther than 200 miles from home, and if we do, we probably wouldn't cover more than that per day. I think it'd be real good for short trips, cause it has no warm up time.

If the infrastructure was in place, electric vehicles can be refueled as quickly as gas/diesel. Dump charging puts a huge amount of power in in one shot, and can bring the battery pack to 85% charge in 30seconds or so.
A true serial hybrid is a good compromise until then, an electric car with a diesel generator onboard to handle continued cruise. |

Did anyone else think it was silly taking an ultra light chassis like an Elise and stuffing 900 pounds worth of batteries in it?
