purchased a zero turn lawn mower powered by a 2 cylinder kawasaki. after a reasonable time with conventional motor oil, say 20 hours for 'break in', can i switch to a synthetic motor oil? thank you.

what does the mfr recommend? What's suggested in the Owner's Manual? I'd start there.

I use Delo 400 HDEO in my Honda mower and genset, the Honda has been running since 1996 with an average of around 60 hours or more a month, still on original engine.

Uh-oh. Is this a segway into another Dino-oil vs Synth-oil "discussion"?!

No Not another Oil thread!!

I have been running Mobil 1 10w40 in all my gas engines. My lawn mower is now about 10 years old and still runs perfectly. My Snapper ride on is even older than that and is running fine as well. Both are Briggs & Stratton. I think the synthetic holds particles in suspension better than dino especially since my mowers don't have oil filters.

Oh one more thing... I always pull the starter a few times with the ignition off to get the oil circulating before running the engine. I don't know if that helps prevent start up wear or not, but it makes me feel better.
