2- Why, in 1953, did the US administration overthrow the Iran's national government under Dr Mohammad Mosaddegh and go on to support the Shah's dictatorship?

8- Why do America's closest allies in the Middle East come from extremely undemocratic governments with absolutist monarchical regimes?

Always wondered about this, Pakistan comes readily to mind.

I think one particularly nasty one would be to be forced to drink warm Moosehead beer.

77,000 cans went missing recently. Clearly a stockpile to be used for torture. Damn you Bush.... er, Harper!

Exactly, what exactly is the Canadian govt. doing to torture people and/or violate their human rights. Meanwhile, the whack job government in Iran is hanging gays for being gay, stoning woman for sexual trysts (both real and imagined) and imprisoning and torturing visiting scholars. Clearly the govt. in Iran has lost all touch with reality.

And yes, the Canadian govt. will have to answer the charges in the UN. But any government can accuse any other government of anything, the accusation alone does not lend any credence to the charges. And no matter how whacked out the accusing government is, the accused will have to answer the charges. Frankly, the Canadian foreign minister should have told the islamofacist government in Iran to go "F" themselves.

This is the root cause of all the issues we have with Iran. However, back in the '50s it looked like Mosaddegh was going commie and Eisenhower could not let that happen to an oil producing state. Also Dr Mosaddegh was trying to overthrow the Shah.

Once we (US and UK) put the Shah back on his throne Iran became a police state for 16 years. However the Sha did create the "white Revolution" which was a series of great reforms designed to transform Iran into a modern 20th century state. However this did not sit well with the fundamentalist clerics and we all know what happened next...

Canadian torture:
1) Sitting through a week long Curling match while being forced to listen to Ann Murray and Alanis Morrisette!
2) Being forced to listen to Alanis at any time
3) Being forced to listen to Neil Young whine about how horrible the USA is
4) Having to listen to Rush without any beer
